So, I'm traveling a lot over Pentecost and will have time on the train. I can't quite decide which project to tackle first.

Whadda you think?

Final check of the translation of so that it gets done?
Start translating ?
Edit in which those books will feature?
Or screw it and just read the books of the author I rediscovered on Patreon yesterday?

May 16: What's your target audience? Why?

People like me, I guess. Because I always write for myself first.

So, people that love to read, don't like too much blood and gore, like some romance and don't mind sex, enjoy a happy ending or something akin, like strong female characters, don't like the alpha male crap or anything akin, like fantasy and history, don't mind people not being hetero, and enjoy if not the strongest and broodiest of 'em all gets the girl.

Thanks Amazon for warning me to watch my reviews. However, it would be nice to know which review got me the warning in the first place. Kinda like "You screwed up, but we're not going to tell you how so you can feel bad for yourself." I suspect one review that I did, but since they won't say which one, I'm kinda on a limb what I said set the author off.

@ericjwrites Amazon once blocked me from posting reviews without telling me why, and I really had to get on their nerves to unblock me and repost my reviews.
Oh, I can get on nerves if I'm truly and utterly mad. Don't know what kind of AI they are employing there.

anderlandbooks,
@anderlandbooks@bookstodon.com avatar

@ericjwrites yes, so am I. I adhere to all their rules, which is why I went off the rails when they said I violated one but could neither tell me which and where.

May 16: If your characters were in a museum, how would they act?

Depends on the type, I suppose. But everything that is further advanced than their knowledge in 1149 would have both Max and Katja gaping.
If it's technology of some kind, make sure to watch Max because he would so try to get into the exhibitions.

316 — Does your MC or SC have a hard time connecting with others?

Nope, quite the opposite. Katja is a sweet, empathic girl and people tend to want to take care of her in one way or the other. She's trusting too.

Max is a little less trusting (ok, a lot), but he easily makes friends. That they don't know his bitterest, darkest secret is another thing altogether.

Also finden alle Zuneigungsbekundungen mündlich statt.

What smells remind your MC of their childhood?

The smell of spices, foreign goods, and the like. Katja's father was a merchant.

Who are your book's most and least gullible characters?

Hah! Apart from the little children, I'd say Katja is the most gullible and Max is the least.

Have you ever attended a writer's fair / festival to promote your work? Would you?

No. And... I don't know. Maybe, if I ever have enough time.

13: How did you come up with the rules of time travel?

Some I had already made up in my backstory in my teens.

The biggest chunk, however, was based on some personal logic and then a lot of calculations. I wanted a certain situation for Jules to live in, and the rest is based on that.

May 14. What role do other writers have in your writing life?

Inspiration, help, encouragement, understanding, critique, beta reading - and yes! They also provide me with a ton of wonderful stories to read and relax my brain!

14.05.:

May 14. Do you have a sense of how much plot you need for how long a manuscript?

Quite some experience meanwhile. But tbh - I don't care. I want to tell my story, not hit a certain word count.

314 — Has your MC ever felt as though they were reborn in the mental / emotional sense?

Katja, no.

But Max, the most important SC, certainly experiences that in Hungary.

May 12. Who is the best friend in your story?

Although it does not start out this way, Max will become Katja's best friend. They go through so much together, and they always have each other's back (although Max doesn't know that Katja has his until much later...)

@anderlandbooks@bookstodon.com avatar

May 12. How do you market your work?

Definitely not well enough.

Until last summer, I didn't have to do much for my German books except for a free sale now and then. But in June, AI popped, and Amazon changed the algorithm, and since then... ⤵️
The English books were always harder. So far, I've done social media (tiktok, IG, FB, X, Bluesky), but my following isn't big enough. I do free promos. I did Amazon Ads. I hired someone, which helped a little.

I need to get better.

Magst Du auch mit absurdem (Prachtett, Adams, Anthony...)? Warum (nicht)?

Absolut!

312 — Is your MC or SC a leader, a follower, or something in between?

Both Max and Katja are young and not so-called "natural" leaders. They don't mind following. But if push comes to shove, they can and will lead.

@anderlandbooks@bookstodon.com avatar

311 — What is a memory that makes your SC swell with pride?

In this case, I'll take Rudolph. And being who he is, this memory would be for him the moment he "took the cross" aka signed up for the pilgrimage/crusade.

What can I say. Children of their time.

I have way too many eye rolls in this book, but, oh well, it's not through edits yet.
