Then vs Now :

Pyramid of the Moon; ancient city of Teotihuacan, Mexico City, Mexico.

The 1900 view must have looked like a random mountain, until excavation and clean-up began.

Pyramid of the Moon covers a structure older than Pyramid of the Sun which existed prior to 200 AD. Pyramid's construction between 100-450 AD, completed bilateral symmetry of temple complex.

St Michaels Mount, Cornwall - England.

St Michael's Mount was given to Benedictine religious order of Mont Saint-Michel by Edward the Confessor in 11th Century CE. It's a tidal island that can be reached by a man made causeway between mid-tide and low water.

Castle and chapel have been home of St Aubyn family since 1650. Today it's run by National Trust. Joachim von Ribbentrop allegedly planned to live here after planned German conquest of Britain.

Antonine Wall was a defensive structure built by Romans in 140 AD. It runs through what is now central Scotland, located at Rough Castle Roman fort near Falkirk, Scotland.

Structure comprised of a ditch and a turf and timber wall. In front of ditch Romans dug these pits, called lilia.

Their function was to stop enemy having a free advance on wall and to break up attacks. At bottom of pits, Romans fixed sharpened stakes hidden among brushwood.

Rough Castle Roman Fort on Antonine Wall (mid-2nd Century AD), near present-day Falkirk, Scotland.

Castle was built in 142 AD, and was abandoned just decades later. All that can be seen today are earthworks.

Harran known for its unique "beehive" dwellings with cone-shaped roofs on square bases made of clay without wood, in Türkiye.

These 4-5m high houses had same basic style for almost 3000 years. Factors like climate, social and urban structure, spatial organization, construction and materials which effected form of buildings were considered.

It has been discovered through this study that Harran houses can be built rapidly like tents, with burnt or sun-dried shallow bricks.

Roman Lycurgus Cup (4th-5th Century CE), a jade green Roman Chalice.⁣

When you put a source of light inside, it magically changes colour. It appears jade green when lit from front but blood-red when lit from behind or inside.

Now we know that romans dissolve silver and gold particles into glass. These particles are 50 nanometers wide, less than 1000th size of a grain of table salt.

Mausoleum of Hadrian (Castle of the Holy Angel), a towering cylindrical building in Parco Adriano, Rome, Italy.

It was initially commissioned by Roman Emperor Hadrian (117-138 CE) as a mausoleum for himself and his family.

Building was later used by popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. Structure was once tallest building in Rome.

A 8000 year old, mirror found in Çatalhöyük (Konya); Türkiye, by archaeologist James Melleart.

It was determined that mirror was made of obsidian, which is called volcanic glass and formed by cooling of lava formed as a result of volcanic eruptions.

If you look closely, you can see temple structures, fisherman wheeling in their catch of the day, and commodities transported by boat.

'Stairs of death' are a section of stone steps built by Incas (1438-1533 CE), which lead to top of Huayna Picchu, one of steep mountains that overlooks Machu Picchu, Peru.

Peak of the mountain is 2,693m above sea level and has Inca ruins on top.
