asonix, to NixOS

This Pull Request is Dangerous: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/275180

if it gets merged I might rewrite my kubernetes configurations in nix...

queer.af shutting down sorta gets to my reasoning for not buying a .cat domain

.cat is intended for sites in catalan, or about catalonia. given the recent political strife between catalonia and spain i decided it was best to not get a .cat because "haha i'm a cat"

.dog at least is intended for dogs

yesterday my uncle asked me about his computer that takes 8 minutes to boot (it's only 4 years old). he wanted to know if he should give avast more money to clean his computer better

i suggested looking through the startup applications and disabling a bunch of those

but also i haven't used windows in years so i didn't have any concrete recommendations otherwise

and then yesterday evening i helped my mom set up a new windows laptop and there were so many pages of the setup where i was like "uncheck all of these boxes" or "click skip" or something similar

for the longest time i've been like "oh well windows is probably fine for a lot of people" but??? folks without much computer literacy are getting completely shit on by windows and its OEMs.

it sucks!!! so bad!!! like i'm a linux nerd sure but windows is actually worse than i thought it was

Back when I lived with @basedOtt he designed and built a sign for our kitchen that said Yiff Laugh Love and hung it above our sink

yesterday i packaged a binary for nixos because i didn't want to bother packaging the build tools that produced the binary

if i made a bot that posted shenzi every hour should i have it post the same picture of shenzi every hour or should it select from a list of like 20 pictures of shenzi to post

and should it post public or unlisted

The concept of reborrowing in rust is so silly

like i have a &mut Thing and I can't use it because it gets moved, but if I do &mut *thing, where thing is &mut Thing, it works fine

this happens when doing manual future polling too when I have Pin<&mut Thing> and I call .as_mut() on it to get Pin<&mut Thing> again

like the types are the same but i'm narrowing lifetimes or something while also not consuming the mutable reference

On mastodon, the Admin doesn't read your private messages, but Gargron does. Gargron reads every single thing everyone types, and Gargron is disappointed

asonix,

the Admin does read my DMs, though. I'm the Admin and I read my DMs

When a Network Error occurs that's a Net Not Work

asonix, to rust

tried playing around with eyra today by porting pict-rs to it

it almost worked :p I was able to compile against eyra by disabling sled, but i think tokio-postgres sets some socket options that eyra doesn't support yet

will be fun to see where this goes, though

asonix,

@sunfish

not implemented: unimplemented setsockopt IPPROTO_TCP optname 18

asonix,

@sunfish whoa!!!

asonix,

@sunfish That's amazing! Thank you!

asonix,

@sunfish everything now runs with eyra, but cpu use is abnormally high compared to glibc after uploading many images. I think some tasks end up getting stuck in a busy-loop instead of properly waiting for a notification or a timeout, causing a DOS

not super sure how to go about debugging this

asonix,

@sunfish I think that was the issue. Running in release mode I don't see the problem at least after a few thousand uploads

asonix,

@sunfish yup!
