billiam0202,

Have we already forgotten about Phyllis Schlafly? It’s easy to convince low-information voters to vote against their best interests, so of course the GOP is going to continue that playbook.

billiam0202,

I think a more pertinent question is, why is any Congressmember making overt religious motions at an official hearing?

billiam0202,

You forgot to add the part where Rudy Colludy was taunting AZ about process evasion on Xitter literally hours before getting served.

Trump Demands Biden Take a Drug Test Before Debating and Claims the President Was ‘High as a Kite’ During the State of the Union (www.mediaite.com)

“I just wanna debate this guy, but you know– and I’m gonna demand a drug test too, by the way,” Trump said as the audience cheered. “I am. No, I really am. I don’t want him coming in like the State of the Union. He was high as a kite.”

billiam0202,

The day Trump accuses Biden of sleeping with Ivanka is gonna be wild.

The opening of the American Declaration of Independence literally states that the country is going to establish a government that derives “their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

To play devil’s advocate, you could argue that’s why the Eastern Oregonian fascists should be allowed to join Idaho- because they don’t consent to be governed by the state legislature.

(Of course, the real problem is that these assholes are increasingly rejecting the concept of government altogether.)

billiam0202, (edited )

You’re right, which is why the argument made is a moral one, not a legal one. If you want a more clear-cut example, think about the American South during the US Civil War. They no longer consented to being governed by Washington, so an argument could be made that the North was morally wrong to force the South to remain in the Union. However, as established in Texas v. White in 1869 there was no (and still isn’t) a legal mechanism for a state to leave the Union, therefore the South couldn’t legally secede.

The same legal precedent applies in this case as well. There isn’t any way (currently, anyhow) for states to redraw their boundaries, so even if allowing the eastern Oregon fascists to join Idaho is the morally-correct action (which is not a position I endorse, just presenting the reasoning) they don’t have a legal method of doing so.

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads (www.techradar.com)

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

billiam0202,

Actually, that’s probably the one excuse that wouldn’t fly. The only company that cancels more stuff randomly and with no reason than Netflix is Google.

billiam0202,

Yes, but they had the veneer of “low ratings” to hide behind. Netflix cancels their content with no warning and no explanation.

billiam0202,

Not just likelihood of success, but also whether any irreparable harm could occur while the case is being decided, in the event the case favors the plaintiffs. In this case, if card companies are only allowed to collect $8 while the case is ongoing, and then a judge ruling they are allowed to collect more than that, means there’s a monetary loss that will have happened. Now I wouldn’t be crying if credit card companies are forced to stop ripping people off, and absolutely fuck the Chamber of Commerce, but that’s what it is.

billiam0202,

Since credit card companies are currently allowed to charge outrageous fees, that would be akin to an ex post facto action so no they wouldn’t. Also while said fees are outrageous, the harm to consumers isn’t relevant because the suit is between credit card companies and the government.

billiam0202,

Abbott would never go to a protest because he doesn’t stand for anything.

billiam0202,

Down with Marduk! Ahura Mazda is the one true god!

billiam0202,

If Marduk were all that great, then he would not have allowed Ahura Mazda and Darius to conquer the Babylonians.

Gov. Abbott pardons Daniel Perry for 2020 fatal Black Lives Matter protest shooting after recommendation from pardons board | CNN (www.cnn.com)

Daniel Perry, a former US Army sergeant who was convicted of murdering a protester at a Black Lives Matter rally in 2020, was released from prison Thursday after he was pardoned by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott....

billiam0202,

You mean the board where all the members were appointed by Abbott, and who recommended parole because Abbott pushed them?

Nope, just another day in Texass.

billiam0202,

You don’t need a plan for Gaza, if you don’t plan for there to be a Gaza.

billiam0202,

Also Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho!

billiam0202,

Honestly, I wonder how much more damaging Booth’s assassination of Lincoln was than we had realized. Would Lincoln have treated the South more appropriately than Johnson did?

billiam0202,

racist partisan hackery

I mean, it’s Texas, so yes.

billiam0202,

Yeah, Republicans hate when you do that because they’re completely unarmed!

Republicans Flock to Trump’s Trial, Risking Control of the House Floor (www.nytimes.com)

"The House was in session at the Capitol on Thursday, but thanks to the latest procession of Republicans reporting for duty in front of a Manhattan criminal courthouse to show support for former President Donald J. Trump at his trial, the party risked ceding its control of the floor,” the New York Times reports....

billiam0202,

Conservatives have always been the “law and order” party.

They want to use the law to order you to accept their monarchy and their religion.

billiam0202,

People should take you seriously when Democrats start wearing diapers to support Biden.

billiam0202,

I have nothing reversed.

The poster I replied to was both-sidesing. I pointed out that when Biden supporters wear diapers in support of Biden (the same way Trump supporters wear diapers) then he’d have a point.

billiam0202,

It’s all good bro.

Judging by my comment score, either I didn’t make my point as well as I would have liked, or I made a few Trump humpers angry.

billiam0202,

The absence of a legitimate need for the audio recordings lays bare your likely goal—to chop them up, distort them, and use them for partisan political purposes. Demanding such sensitive and constitutionally-protected law enforcement materials from the Executive Branch because you want to manipulate them for potential political gain is inappropriate.

  • White House counsel Ed Siskel

I mean, we all know what the right-wing intends to do because it’s what they’ve been doing. Right-wing media can’t report the news honestly, because reality distorts their narratives. I remember during Trump’s first impeachment trial Fox would broadcast whatever Trump’s lawyers would say, then go picture-in-picture to their talking heads while Jamie Raskin and the other prosecutors were talking, ensuring their base didn’t actually get to hear the evidence. Or just look at James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas “reports” where it becomes painfully obvious that whoever he’s setting up has had their answers taken out of context.

billiam0202,

It’s not; you’re just looking at the beginning of automating creativity when labor automation has been going on for over a hundred years. The introduction of new tech is always more disruptive than refining established tech. Besides which, VA is particularly sensitive to disruption because every VA does essentially the same job- one AI can be programmed to speak in thousands (millions?) of different voices, whereas one manual labor job doesn’t necessarily require the same actions as another.

Also it’s funny you complain about laundry, given how much doing laundry has been automated.
