Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....

bitwolf,

Nature is healing!

bitwolf,

Technically they do work, but the publisher is blocking Linux.

bitwolf, (edited )

And now, back to your regularly scheduled approved programming!

bitwolf,

Niagara launcher user here. Dont forget us!

bitwolf,

Surprised they didn’t consider cactus leather. My Orbitkey has been holding up great.

bitwolf,

Do you self host? I read that the federation is where performance becomes a challenge?

Has resource usage gone up dramatically when you started federating?

kancept, to framework
@kancept@mastodon.social avatar

As much as I love the idea of the @framework laptop, and as much as I want one, I just can't seem to justify it over my current Lenovo T480. Other than a faster/newer processor, I'm not sure that I'd truly get any benefit at this point in time. :sadness:

bitwolf,

The nice thing is that they’re established. When your t480 breaks you have a reasonable option (I don’t believe the newer Lenovos have the same spirit).

bitwolf,

There is more to it than temperature that is overlooked by brevity. When you’re in a stressful, and uncomfortable, situation like that the numbness helps with the cold, possibly uneven, ground.

It can quiet the mind. And the inhibition can help nullify the fight or flight response aiding in getting to sleep.

There are several properties of alcohol that makes it seem like a reasonable deduction to drink a bit in order to sleep. Even if it is harmful and could compound the suffering down the line.

bitwolf,

To be fair, Windows and Macos support is like this too. Its random forum suggestions from even less technical people.

The distros official resources are comprehensive and don’t have the issue of being outdated and fragmented.

Google fires 28 employees after protest over Israel cloud contract (www.theverge.com)

Google fired 28 employees in connection with sit-in protests at two of its offices this week, according to an internal memo obtained by The Verge. The firings come after 9 employees were suspended and then arrested in New York and California on Tuesday....

bitwolf,

Every employee is bound by the Software Engineering code of ethics.

So does this mean Google has abandoned this.

bitwolf,

Germany has proved it’s not the speed that causes the accidents it’s the excessive lane changing resulting in cutting people off.

Cell phone addiction doesn’t help either.

bitwolf,

Its the same in the States as well. People here are just so far removed from the law because our road design often necessitates breaking the law.

bitwolf,

That is even more surprising than me seeing the accident statistics in Europe. I must have fallen for propaganda 😓

bitwolf,

I’ve already budged no need to double down.

bitwolf,

If I need a dock I’ll always get the newest Caldigit. Having gone through many, nothing else compares.

bitwolf,

That should be an ADA violation

bitwolf,

Damn where do you work, I’d gladly fill that seat. I’d take Ubuntu over Windows any day.

I actually like Gnome but I’m so tired of Microsoft shops.

bitwolf,

Why would I throw away my perfectly good wired headphones because a phone removes the audio jack?

(The dongles sound measurably better than 90% of the headphones jacks on phones).

bitwolf,

I got excited about GestureNavContract. It still chokes in predictive back animations. Sadly it still seems like only the default launcher can handle them 😕

bitwolf,

That’s surprising to hear because my Skylake XPS 13 had everything upstreamed and worked flawlessly.

LVFS support too. Are you trying with an XPS 15?

bitwolf,

Same although I truly want a Fairphone 5 with guaranteed T-Mobile compat
