what are your personal fave/most useful guides/tipsheets/threads/etc on doing fandom in the fediverse? esp for people coming from twitter who aren't familiar with federated platforms? trying to make a compilation post I can send people

I'm willing to do my fandoms, for example, but I don't have the spoons to hunt down things I don't know exist.

Because of the 500 character limit on my Mastodon instance, I’ve been thinking whether I should make a WriteFreely blog, or just stick to Pillowfort/Tumblr for longer posts and link to them.

One option would of course be to get another Mastodon account on an instance that has a longer character limit.

though I casually discourse on occasion and I've not been told off yet (though I guess I keep it to a minimum because I left the argumentative part of me on twitter)

I guess it's likely to keep the toxicity and shitfights off the server, which, fair enough. But I've never found you to be that kind of discourser, more informative, with all your PSAs and infographics 😍

If in doubt, you could talk to @admim about it.

@admim thanks! That makes me happy, I'm definitely in 'do not engage' mode here anyway, but still allows for meta and the PSAs/infographics @tikli is so damn good at.

Not that I've even seen any antis around here. They tend to get dealt with swiftly if they do pop up, which is like, a big bonus of the fediverse.

Profane

Summary: Sam and Dean are captured by a witch, who intends to use them to conjure something they can only assume will be particularly nasty.

It doesn't go as expected, and the boys have to clean up a hell of a mess, both the monster that was summoned, and the effect it's had on their relationship.

People who complain about the different rules on different servers never navigated the Internet when forums were the thing.

It was the norm to read the damn rules and lurk for a while to get your head around the culture of the place.

Yes, I'm old. Perhaps that's why fedi is majority . We've done this kind of thing before and it's not that big of a deal.

I don't have a problem with critiquing other instance rules. There's plenty of servers out there with shit rules or shit enforcement.
