If you're an admin of a mastodon/fediverse instance you should update your robots.txt to block "GPTBot", the crawler made by OpenAI to feed their machine learning models such as ChatGPT.

This is the easiest way right now to prevent public content from being crawled and fed into their datasets, and due to the nature of federation it works better the more instances that do it.

I was trying to make a poll asking what kind of program people like to #write #fanfic with (or write in general, but I'm thinking of fic :-p), but I failed! So yeah, what's your style?

E.g. Is open-source a must? Do you pay a big company (like Microsoft, Apple, etc.)? Do you ask google to hold your fic for you? Are you insistent it work on your phone, or be always online?

Or are you CRAZY and just write the whole damn thing in your favourite fic site's input text box? XD

To my fellow creators, a reminder that practice makes progress, not perfection.

Just left the Vancouver Art Gallery where we took in the Fashion Fictions exhibit, and it. Was. Fabulous.

But looking closely at the pieces, I couldn’t help but notice that “high fashion” doesn’t always mean “great sewing.” So many wobbledy topstitches, warped baby hems, and roughly turned facings.

I think mastodon and the fediverse could benefit from a more universal system of clearly classifying server communities by moderation activity and fediblock level. it’s ok for servers to have different priorities, but part of helping people pick the right one has to be helping people easily understand their differences at sign up. I know others have called for this, just add my name to the petition
