TFW you try to read some legit published fiction but can't get through the first chapter because you've been ruined by quality fanfiction.

Which also leads to the whole 'hmm, maybe I should write some original shit if people are getting paid to write stuff I would be embarrassed to post on AO3' thoughts which never go anywhere anyway because I'm lazy.

bloodwrites,

@DyingAloePlant I've always felt sorry for non-fic authors tbh - we're closer to our readers - we're part of the same community, you know? We talk to each other, squee together.

Published authors can seem like this distant, almost non-person person. You just have to read some of the reviews on amazon to see it.

The fanfiction community offers support that I for sure would never have never kept writing without.

Another advantage to posting fic to my own site is not having to download the file after posting to AO3 for backup purposes cos it's 1. online in a place I control and 2. backed up to github

bloodwrites,

@gekidasa yeah, I absolutely am, but it's no longer the first place I post fic (and it's not the one I link to either - if ppl want AO3, there are links on my fic pages).

bloodwrites,

@gekidasa it's a fact that most of my readers come via ao3, it's been winning for a decade in discoverability and I don't think it's going away any time soon.

But I'm doing my teeny tiny part to seed the idea of spreading it around a bit.

bloodwrites,

@gekidasa I've only just enabled comments on my site, maybe something will come of it 🤞

bloodwrites,

@gekidasa nope, I'd like to, but I'm not up for that currently

yeah so I'm playing on firefish over here @bloodwrites in case I suddenly go silent that's where I am 🤣

bloodwrites,

look at how pretty firefish is!!

bloodwrites,

@superluminous nope! it's a completely different software (ie: not mastodon), and there's a crapton of themes out of the box 😍

bloodwrites,

@superluminous yep! No point in social media if it doesn't federate 🤣

La la la, editing chapter 4 of Profane. Here comes the unrealistic sex, people 😗🎼

My fave fabric store just got in a bunch of velvet. My past goth self is just itching to buy a fuckton.

My present practical self reminds me I have pets, and pet hair sticks to anything with a pile 😭

bloodwrites,

@sapphirescribe tbh it's probably easier to get the foof off of than the huge amount of wool in my wardrobe - the hair just works it's way in and sticks 🤮

It's rare, but every so often I see a post that I'd kill for a downvote button on.

bloodwrites,

@alis fandom firefish server when 😂

bloodwrites,

@alis if you do, I'll be there with bells

I bought a pair of cheap plaid fleece pyjama pants when I was in the US in 2012, which I've thrashed to death, and finally had to replace the elastic.

Now I don't lose the damn things in the middle of the night 😂

But I have questions. If I'd bought them in NZ, and worn them for over a decade, they'd be DEAD by now. There's no fucking way they would have lasted.

I bought these fuckers at a discount store - maybe a dollar type store? HOW WERE THEY SO WELL MADE? The label was completely faded out so I don't know where they were made, but in 11 years, not a single broken stitch or hole that wasn't a cigarette burn (a habit I've long since kicked).

QUESTIONS.

bloodwrites,

@MoonRaccoon yeah that's probably what happened here tbh

bloodwrites,

@BaconAndPie that's the truth

And if you reset your brain to filter out fast fashion, it's not actually more expensive to make your own clothes now.

bloodwrites,

@alis oh well, we have public healthcare, checks and balances 😅

bloodwrites,

@treefrogie84 @alis yeah I think we got the better deal

1990-s are now vintage? what? how? when did that happen?
i don't like it.

bloodwrites,

@syzygy yep, I have zoomer children so I've been aware of this for some time.

Miss17 often curses me for not holding on to more of my 'vintage' stuff.

I remember hitting my own mother's wardrobe in the 90s and finding a treasure trove of riches there, so it didn't really surprise me much.
