Filters are going to need a #Mastodon deep dive, just like preview cards. Rules aren’t applied consistently across apps.
Even when you identify something you want completely hidden, they are often still included as a content warning. :emoji_squint:
Direct searches behave differently as well. Some apps say, "Well, you searched, so obviously you want to see it regardless of your filters, so here you go." Others show "removed from timeline" for every post removed. Others show nothing.
I have to wonder if we would be better off if the filter logic was applied server side before the api results are received so it would be more consistent across apps.
@box464 Your "Ice Refills" #Shortcut for #iOS seems to have stopped working on my iPhone. Possibly after the update to #ios1641 though I'm pretty sure I've seen it work since then.
So I made a home screen shortcut to the @dimillian GitHub, and it fails the same way - tap it and the color changes for a moment but nothing else happens.
But both of them work properly from inside the iPhone #Shortcuts app, and both work even on the home screen on my iPad (also 16.4.1).
@KrissyKat I had to use something called Trumpet and WinSock to connect to the internet from my schools connection. Got my account disabled and had to walk down to the computer lab to talk to a group of angry admins about how I did it. Had no idea I was doing anything sneaky!
Has anyone made contact with the people behind #Audon? I think many #blind people would like to use it, but it has a few unlabelled buttons in the room UI.
I haven’t been able to find any way to contact them but this would be a big hit in the blind community if it were a bit more #accessible.
It's called @radiant and it's on TestFlight.
The app focuses on all the basic features, but also puts a fine polish on each of them. 💅🏼
A unique feature is multi-tags. Ever been confused with the multiple hashtag filter? Radiant makes it simple with a "Multi Tag" timeline.
I created a multi tag setup to show all "#Poll" entries with ANY of the tags shown. So I get a nice timeline of polls that are about the current state of the fediverse. 🥳
@radiant What I am excited about with all these new apps coming out is they keep getting better! There is still plenty of room for more apps to meet the needs of more people.
It's no longer a one size MUST fit all game like we are now forced into with big social media firms.
@cheeaun@radiant Bummer. Still useful, tho. The issue mentioned is right - this should be bubbled up through the API so anything submitted over the limit throws an error back.
Klaus Nomi was a performance artist and amazing operatic rock singer in the early 80s. He worked with David Bowie on several occasions, giving an aesthetic of Pee Wee Herman meets Rocky Horror. Sadly, he died far too soon. #Music#SongOfTheDay
Calckey offers an interesting feature that I wish Mastodon apps included - the ability to view from what PLATFORM an account comes from. It's missing one thing, which is a clickable link that would take you to the official site of each platform to check it out. I think the beta API from FediDB might be able to assist with that.
Would love to see this in more apps, regardless of platform. Gives casual users a chance to check out other pockets of the fediverse out there.
@freeplay I’ve seen both..like in the screenshot I attached the mastodon one doesn’t list the instance, just “mastodon”. Or maybe the instance name is cut off?
@vyr ooh you’re taking about the client app like Ivory or Sengi, etc. Yes! Ice Cubes shows that when it’s available. And my little playground does too.
@vyr I looked into it for a split minute weeks ago. There were issues accessing the info SOMEtimes via client code due to CORS.
Was thinking it could use some kind of key/value store cache node.js API - pass the instance URL and return the software name, logo and url. If it doesn’t exist, call out to a server side API to do the work and get around CORS complaints.
Then the beta of FediDB API came along which appears to have all that info already.
@stephenjbell Recently made an account on a Calckey instance and they tout data migrations WITH posts, even from Mastodon, but I haven't been able to test it out yet. Documentation isn't clear and I'd have to setup some test accounts to try it out - I'm not THAT brave to try it with my main! 😅
@box464@Decad3nce@cheeaun so it's close. I don't think this is the case, but I was hoping for the same multi instance search functionality as I see on the explore page, but on the global search. I like it. Thanks for these innovations!
