Apparently Apple Music for Mac has rabid fanbois (they are all men. All of them) and they are on Threads?! Of all the truly shitty products to stan, you want to defend Apple Music on the Mac?! I’ll defend Apple Music on iOS, even tho sync is a shit show, but on the desktop?! Man normies are weird.

@film_girl Apple Music on Mac isn’t terrible for me, but it also isn’t great and certainly isn’t worth rabidly defending! I just can’t say I’ve ever had a truly terrible experience either, so I usually come away feeling very “meh” about it. (For what its worth, I stayed up until midnight to listen to TTPD and had zero issues last night, showed up around 12:01 for me)

It's absolutely possible. But millions of people had strong reasons to use iPhones even before there were any apps, and then also before the apps were plentiful or compelling.

The customers were already there.

The challenge Apple faces with AVP is getting enough people to buy (and keep using) a device type that they weren't already buying (headsets), which is VERY expensive and limited, to accumulate enough customers for the content and software ecosystem to develop.

@marcoarment Lots of people forget that initially, the iPhone “2G” cost $500 in a time where most people were accustomed to getting their phones free from their carrier. It wasn’t until Apple lowered the price to $199 a while later that sales really began to take off.

In a world of ~$500 mainstream headsets, I suspect the Apple Vision Pro is in dire need of that same moment.

@film_girl @marcoarment I totally agree that the trajectory will be totally different than the iPhone, in all likelihood - this is going to be a low volume product, probably forever. I think my main point was just that for the platform to take off in any manner, a price cut is almost certainly necessary

This is insanity. Apple is creating an entirely different and new App Store experience for just the EU, and it’ll cause chaos as users and developers in different regions begin to get drastically different experiences.

@jann I think at this point, Apple and iOS/iPadOS are far too big to avoid regulation. They can and absolutely should be forced to do this in more nations - my view is that this is an important step to protect consumer choice and to continue fostering open development of software.

Why is this device shipping now as a product when half the system apps haven’t been ported natively, and run under emulation?

This OS is demonstrably unfinished. The homescreen doesn’t even have app rearranging or folders; it’s certainly not ready for an App Store with a million compatible apps
