I like bikes and sea monsters and the city by the bay.

This is my main "most me-like" fediverse identity, which occasionally boosts my alts.

In my 30s I no longer felt obligated to go to undesirable social events.

In my 40s I no longer feel obligated to finish books I don't vibe with.

Is this level of power what God and Taylor Swift feel like?

love 2 traceroute google while living in Seattle and have it bounce through Florida. Super excellent use of internet tubes

@chizang@sfba.social avatar

@hazelweakly what if you use 8.8.8.8 as your DNS resolver?

chizang,
@chizang@sfba.social avatar

@hazelweakly ok, understood. What if you configure the client to use 8.8.8.8 though? Do you still get questionable routing behavior?

(I used to manage the team who owns this and still sit close to them, I'm interested in whatever you figure out.)

No, guys, they have not achieved "net energy gain" (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/aug/06/us-scientists-achieve-net-energy-gain-second-time-fusion-reaction) because you're only counting the energy IN the laser, not the energy it takes to FIRE the laser, which is hundreds, maybe thousands of times more.

It's misleading and irresponsible to let people think we're anywhere near break-even in fusion.

@chizang@sfba.social avatar

@robpike the FT reported it correctly, although it was buried a few grafs in.

My friend Emily Hu just set a new All Time World Record in the bench press at 59Kg (130lbs) by bench pressing 303 lbs at a full power meet. 🤯

This is her 4th All Time World Record.

@mekkaokereke is the back arch a normal thing for competitive lifting?

Asking because many of the bench press techniques I've found (on sites for non-competition lifting) emphasize a flat back.

@mekkaokereke thanks!

@mekkaokereke coming back to this... my main goal is to not get hurt. 😂

I try to follow the form tips on this page, they seem sensible enough? And I'm not lifting enough where I need to squeeze every bit of performance...

ChargePoint will offer NACS connections:

https://www.chargepoint.com/about/news/chargepoint-will-soon-offer-nacs-connector-options-its-charging-solutions

so that's great. I dont care which connector we use as long as it's not monopolized

i mean it's bad news for my ioniq 5 but that's what I get for being a weirdo not driving a tesla

chizang,
@chizang@sfba.social avatar

@zzzeek do you know if NACS supports V2L?

chizang,
@chizang@sfba.social avatar

@zzzeek vehicle to load, where you can power stuff off your car. The Ioniq 5 you mentioned supports it.

@zzzeek I was more talking about things like this:

It's not unreasonable in the Bay Area to expect that our grid to be insufficient during high use periods, so this isn't as niche as one might think.

Anybody in SF have experience with Monkeybrains as an ISP? Curious how the setup was and how it compares to Comcast if so!

chizang,
@chizang@sfba.social avatar

@caseynewton I've been a customer twice (at different apartments). I so wanted to love them but ultimately, the service was insufficient for my use cases (ssh sessions to remote servers as part of my work, plus competing with my spouse's VPN for limited bandwidth). Someone else already mentioned the rain issue.

Currently on Sonic fiber in the Mission and it's the best.

If the goal is to support a great local business, go for it. Just be sure to have a reliable backup, such as 5G tethering or a second ISP or whatever...
