Also people believed that the war was going to be a quick and simple one that was going to end soon thanks to modern mechanical weapons - by making them powerful they were supposed to discourage people from fighting total wars... Also, who would be stupid enough to fight a total war to destroy the European supply chain that only exists because of interconnected free trade anyway?

it's 2024 and most food containers are still made of extremely brittle glass and ceramic. surely after so many years of material science there's something stronger (that's stabler in heat than plastic)

Which is why refillable containers are better in the end (specially as it's less costy to clean than re-make).

the concept of slaves paying their slaveowners for damages and lost revenue is already absurd but then also a lot of it actually went to the US because they bought off the debt from france. and today haiti is still in enormous debt due to pretty much their entire revenue going to their slavers and exploiters for 2 centuries. what the fuck
