Not always. Any m by n matrix is also a vector. Polynomials are vectors. As are continuous functions.

A vector is an element of a vector space over a field. These are sets which have a few operations, vector addition and scalar multiplication, and obey some well known rules, such as the existence of a zero vector (identity for vector addition), associativity and commutativity of vector addition, distributivity of scalar multiplication over vector sums, that sort of thing!

These basic properties give rise to more elaborate concepts such as linear independence, spanning sets, and the idea of a basis, though not all vector spaces have a finite basis.

Every vector is a tensor. Matrices are vectors because m by n matrices form vector spaces. Magnitude and direction have nothing to do with the definition of vectors which are just elements of vector spaces.

chonglibloodsport,

Capacitive touchscreens are the essential technology not just in the iPhone but in all smartphones. Without them we’d still be using flip phones and BlackBerry chiclet keyboards. I think it’s fair to call Johnson the father of the smartphone!

chonglibloodsport,

All of what you say is true of brand new shows as well, with even more room to experiment. I wish the Simpsons would just die and let new shows and new ideas take its place.

Honestly, what you’ve described sounds like a the Simpsons is an old, rich guy who pays young writers and artists to entertain him. Yes, he employs these people. No, I don’t think it’s anywhere even close to a good use of these economic resources. It’s for the same reason Hollywood makes so many comic book movies instead of dramas.

chonglibloodsport,

The imp quest is already planned for a total overhaul. The plan is for a special raid on a dwarven vault!

I am looking forward to that. The current quest is incredibly dull and frustrating. Luck determines whether you find the imp early or not and if late then you have a potentially very long grind ahead while waiting for monks or golems to spawn. Not great!

chonglibloodsport,

There is a very similar word that has a d before the g: pidgin. It’s a form of a language (usually English) which is simplified and commonly spoken by non-native speakers.

chonglibloodsport,

This is actually a false colour image taken with NIRCam, not a photograph.

chonglibloodsport,

The reason the Mother series is so good is because it’s completely honest and lacking self-conscienceness. A lot of games today make a fatal error: they draw too much attention to the author. This is especially the case with homage or tribute games. They don’t allow you to immerse yourself and have that pure experience because the game is chock full of these little reminders that you’re playing a video game.

[ShPD] [discussion] UI/QoL stuff

Let’s talk about some UI/quality of life stuff. I was about to open issue, but since it touches a bunch of different topics, I guess a discussion is better. It’s a bunch of things that were annoying to me over the last months. It doesn’t mean that something has to change, could just be that I overlooked some features...

chonglibloodsport,

Hi Evan. When I tap here:

main game screenshot

The game brings up the list of active challenges in my game. But this information is also accessible from the menu:

Whereas the information on the current floor modifier is not. The current list of challenges is not something I look at very often and doesn’t change throughout the game so I think it makes more sense to only access it through the menu and change that above tap location to bring up the floor modifier information.

chonglibloodsport,

I’m really surprised at how bad of an experience people are having! I have a bunch of channels I follow and people I interact with. Some big channels but most small. I love channels with only a few hundred to a few thousand viewers. The creators post their videos and then I talk to them through the comments. We have some really interesting conversations.

Lots of other channels I follow I don’t interact with but still really enjoy. A lot of hobby channels are amazing! I generally avoid the news and politics stuff, though I still occasionally watch Ukraine videos or Trump trial stuff. I get sick of those after one video though!

chonglibloodsport,

You can subscribe but you can’t comment without an account. I know YouTube has a terrible reputation for the low quality of comments but that’s exclusively a large channel problem. Small, niche channels actually have decent discussions.

chonglibloodsport,

I agree with him on right to repair and other rights issues but I can’t stand the guy. He’s incredibly abrasive and annoying. I’m interested in people who have interesting things to say. Long, angry rants about stuff I already agree with are just a waste of my time.

chonglibloodsport,

I think I can see the beginnings of red on top of his head!

chonglibloodsport,

Pretty funny! But the reason so many people need glasses is because we spend all our time indoors, reading. People in the past were outside working all the time and they didn’t need glasses as a result.

chonglibloodsport,

There are no secret doors on floor 1. When I found this out it really surprised me! I still end up searching a few times out of habit haha

chonglibloodsport,

That’s not true. Kids used to pay for themselves. My grandmother had 14 siblings. Many of them started working right after grade 8 and handed over their pay to their parents to help support the family!

chonglibloodsport,

They also worked on the farm and helped in but kitchen. Life was very different back then. Medical care wasn’t nearly as advanced, accessible, and expensive as it is today. School was brief and free, not an enormous expense like it is today. Food was cheap, just labour-intensive because you had to grow it yourself. Housing was cheap too: you largely built it yourself and you didn’t need 15 bedrooms for 15 kids: 3-4 would suffice.

chonglibloodsport,

Right. A big company can remain solvent for a very long time while absolutely undermining and destroying all of the things they were once great at.

chonglibloodsport,

You can have walkable neighbourhoods without living downtown in a big city. Small villages are the original way to have walkable lifestyles. It’s how everyone lived centuries ago. There’s still plenty of those around, they just get overlooked.

Suburbs exist mainly for the purpose of commuting into the city for work. If people stopped doing that then they could leave the suburbs.

chonglibloodsport,

It says unarmed or ring of force, which is a bit ambiguous, but I understand now. Thanks! The talent is special cased to not let you benefit from the damage of the ring of force at the same time as getting bonus energy but brawler’s stance would let you toggle quickly as needed, so there’s a lot of flexibility!

chonglibloodsport,

It’s specific to the rotberry plant. When you trample it you always get the seed back. Warden is just needed to make the plant actually beneficial. For other classes the rotberry plant just releases toxic gas rather than giving you strength and surrounding you with a ring of grass.

chonglibloodsport,

It’s a really fun play style. In my run I also found an elastic crossbow and I was using all the different darts with it. The crossbow does a lot more damage than the spirit bow if you upgrade it a lot. The darts open a ton of strategic possibilities too

chonglibloodsport,

You need darts. You can buy 2 in each shop. They never break but the tips wear out so you need to retip them with seeds. Well you don’t need to retip them if you just want to fire the crossbow, but tipping them is so powerful and useful! Paralysis, blind, poison, holy, are all great!
