My first meetup in 8 or 9 years (in person) at WordPress Naperville

@travislopes You know, I was only thinking back to the last one I helped run. I think it was 4-5 years ago since I was in St. Pete!

I wonder how many developers complaining about Microsoft’s latest spyware have a dev stack comprised of GitHub/VSCode/Copilot/etc…

@acarson a lot of us limit it all as much as we can but I think many don’t even try

Friends, I haven't read the Chuck Schumer "report" on AI. Why should I? I knew where it was headed by seeing who they invited (and when they tried to invite me as a back fill/window dressing) & the fact that he asked people what their "p(doom)" was shudder. My whole life is not centered around commenting on what all these ridiculous people are doing. For that, I've written a very detailed paper with Emile P. Torres that you can refer to. Find it and other resources at https://dair-institute.org/tescreal/.

Anyone have a desktop #Mastodon client for #Linux that they love (or at least enjoy)?

I really do enjoy using Ivory for Mastodon but, of course, it isn't on Linux and I’m looking for something similar.

chris,
@chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

@cgrymala Yes, a formal desktop client. I heavily filter my daily client which gives me the option to go back to the web interface if I think I'm missing something so it is important to me to keep them separate.

chris,
@chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

@jnv I tried Phanpy but really want a desktop client, not a different web client (same with Elk)

chris,
@chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

@jnv I'll probably just go back to Tuba. I start a similar post every few months in the hope that something new and wonderful is available but, alas, here we are.

chris,
@chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

@jnv I find this to be the case on so many things with Linux. I love using it but… ugh

@chris - was just having this conversation a couple weeks ago with a friend. We hit a local art museum and then decided we really need to start touring other places in our town. There's a ton of cool shit we never get to see - and it's all so accessible!

@imtheq nice. It’s amazing how much we can take for granted at home if we’re not careful.

So, where's the best place to get/purchase @debian Linux stickers? I've had to send back my former company's laptop and need some new stickers for the newly purchased (new to me, anyway) ThinkPad. Like an idiot, I used up all of my Debian stickers on the work laptop that shipped back.

chris,
@chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

@cmccullough I haven't had stickers on my machines in a very long time but maybe this will help? https://www.debian.org/events/merchandise

I was just writing about how excited I am to explore the city like a tourist this week. As I hit “publish" on the post I was reminded of the other reason I'm always so excited to leave the house anymore... the constuction.

My watch says it is 104 dB in my office as I type this.

Oye.

@mykie 22 stories with 12 units per floor. It is pretty large.

Changing contexts entirely every 30 minutes, on average, during an average work day doesn't make for a great environment to get focus work done.

It's storming outside this morning. I find it rather peaceful for sleep but, so much for our morning walk.

@shawnhooper Ha! Even after a couple of months it is still weird for me as team meetings and all are at different times.

chris,

@shawnhooper Ha. Yeah. I have 1 Irish guy on my team so the two weeks between when the US switches and when Europe switches is always a mess.
