Any tips on how to connect a WordPress form to Google Sheets without a 3rd party premium service?

I have a form that is rarely used by people (usually older folks) who want marketing mailed to them instead of email. The best way to do this is to have a form where they input their mailing info and have it connect to a Google spreadsheet.

Unless there's a better solution?

I don't want to have another annual plugin subscription to do this.

"Surprisingly, our results show that women's contributions tend to be accepted more often than men's. However, when a woman's gender is identifiable, they are rejected more often. Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless."

This comment from a thread at MacRumors about Joanna Stern’s iPad Pro review explains a point I’ve been trying to make for awhile:

"It can be frustrating to repeatedly highlight that many tech reviewers overlook that their use of a computer is not the only use of computers. Apart from digital artists, who may prefer to use an iPad over a traditional laptop for some of their work, several other mobile professionals use the iPad ... https://beardystarstuff.net/2024/05/14/this-comment-from.html

“At Microsoft, the share of senior employees as a portion of the company’s overall workforce declined more than 5 percentage points after the return-to-office mandate took effect, the researchers found. At Apple, the decline was 4 percentage points, while at SpaceX — the only company of the three to require workers to be fully in-person — the share of senior employees dropped 15 percentage points.”

Does anyone know of a plugin that will auto-import Mastodon toots to WordPress and let me choose a post type and category/term to import them into?

I'm looking to import my Mastodon post history at first, then update periodically with anything new.

I've tried this, https://github.com/janboddez/import-from-mastodon but it only seems to do the first toot.
Also tried https://wordpress.org/plugins/tootpress/ but it adds it to a page only, oddly.

All RSS feed importers I've tried have filled my WP Admin with errors and warnings.

There's a massive elephant in the room when it comes to #FossSustainability . How do you recruit folks to help with building?

Just why is your community pipeline limited? Could it per chance be your public behaviour as the BDFL?

I mean you realise your community is more than just the code right?

Lou on the iPad Release
While I don’t think the new iPad release is compelling I also agree with Lou

Don’t let anyone else tell you how you should feel or use your personal technology.

Use what works for you. Enjoy it without shame. This goes for anything you enjoy that’s not harmful to others.

Enjoy the music you enjoy or the movies you enjoy, even if others say they’re terrible.

"I'm so angry at Biden over Isreal/Gaza that I'm going to help Trump destroy democracy, weaponize the Justice system, send millions to deportation camps, lower the taxes on the wealthy and shift the burden to the middle class, cut Social Security, track and prosecute women having abortions, pardon the people who violently attacked Capitol police, dismantle NATO, help Russia, AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT do even more harm to Palestinians" is a take--it's just a really awful take, IMO.

Facebook/Meta starts talking about the "Extend" phase of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish as predicted:

"“You could imagine an extension to the protocol eventually — of saying like, ‘I want to support micropayments,’ or … like, ‘hey, feel free to show me ads, if that supports you.’ Kind of like a way for you to self-label or self-opt-in. That would be great,”

I was new to SQL so I found an “intro to SQL” book on the company bookshelf, and read it over a weekend.

From that point on, I was seen as an SQL expert amongst colleagues.

It was a revelation about our industry."

One: a Nazi promotes her own speech about The Great Replacement (core Nazi doctrine)

Two: Musk promotes the post and says the problem with [Nazi doctrine] is that it doesn't center enough in [Nazi historical doctrine]

Three: my ex-boss and automattic and Tumblr CEO jumps in to recommend Elon a book about [Nazi doctrine]

So yeah, my ex-boss seems to be full in the movement.

Now let me remind you about this thing called reality:

US population grew 0.4% last year

EU population grew 0.1% last year

World Population? +0.8%

None of those figures has gone under 0 in the last 50 years (and probably before, I just don't want to look for more data). The population collapse the are talking about is about WHITE population. If someone talks about population decline, they are a white supremacist.

Good fucking grief.

Ladies and gentlemen, the post I am about to write is something I never thought I would ever get to write. Don't worry, this is positive. It is perhaps the most positive of anything that could be positive. Despite all the unfortunate stuff going on with me lately medically, something incredible has happened. It actually happened a couple days ago, but I held off talking aobut it until I could verify it was real, because yes, it is that unbelievable. So here goes. I have been reached out to by the Make-A-Wish foundation, because a child with cancer made a wish... to meet... me. I am... I am completely emotionally overwhelmed by this. It is, in my opinion, one of the highest honors it is possible to receive. This kid could've wished for anything. For anyone. But they wished to meet me. I cannot believe this is real. There's more to say, but that will be in the next post. Stay tuned.

18+ superblindman,
@superblindman@peoplemaking.games avatar

The other half of this for me is that it's a full circle moment. Many of you don't know this, but I was a wish kid too. So was my brother. I wished for a computer, and Make-A-Wish got me my first blindness-ready setup. Computer, braille printer, print printer, scanner, desk for all that, and 8 hours of Jaws training. Little kid me was screaming with delight. And now, from being the kid who made the wish, to being the adult who is granting a wish to another kid... Because you best believe I'm doing this... It's so... so crazy. So amazing. So utterly wonderful and unbelievable and... There are just no words that do it justice. I've said it before, but you never know how much you affect the lives of others in this world until you know. Part of my brain keeps insisting things like "You're not John Cena." (specifically him because he granted the most wishes to Make-A-Wish kids historically). And yet... And yet, sometimes, to the right person, you are.
