    @cstanhope I become a pilot due to top gun. Would’ve been a navy pilot but … that’s a bigger story.

    Stupid me tried to toss a suitcase onto a shelf. Lost his balance and tried to grab the shelving to stop from falling off the ladder.

    Stupid me is now sitting in the ER with a possibly broken thumb.

    Feedly or Feedbin?

    I have a lifetime plan on Feedly, but curious if it’s worth exploring Feedbin.

    chris,
    @chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

    @mako Yes, I found it better than Feedbin, though I can't remember all I was testing at the time. Today I use it primarily in Reeder app which I've found does great for me. The fanciest thing I use are for it to collect mailing lists and a few sites it scrapes well without any RSS feed.

    I'm looking at Garmin smartwatches and it might be one of the most confusing experiences I've ever had. There are like 10,000 different SKUs, each watch is identical except for one minuscule difference, and the prices are all over the place. I have no idea which one is the newest version of each model, nor on which one I could use Spotify.

    chris,
    @chris@mastodon.chriswiegman.com avatar

    @thekerker My wife's sisters have had so many problems with Garmins too. They were having to replace watches every few months between the 3 of them that had them. It was ridiculous and the support was horrible.

    "Trump’s talk of seeking “retribution” against foes, including some he’s branded “vermin”, has coincided with plans that Maga loyalists at rightwing thinktanks are assembling to expand the president’s power and curb the DoJ, the FBI and other federal agencies. All of it has fueled critics’ fears that in a second term Trump would govern as an unprecedentedly authoritarian American leader."

    How and why did the US get to this?

    @dennyhenke Even suggesting this to most people I know gets me, at best, weird confused looks and, at worst, anger. How dare I suggest they shouldn't be entitled to hop on a jet every week. How dare I suggest they "have" to do anything.

    Our society has gotten so focused on the individual, the “me," that I don't know how we recover. As I move to a place where I can get more involved I think of this a lot. People truly can't understand why I would even consider anything but "me.”

    Three heros I have in this world:

    1: Mr Rogers
    2: Thomas Merton
    3: Fr. Randy Rentner CSC

    I never met the first two but the 3rd failed me out of the honors program in high school and, I realized much later, that was one of the best gifts I could have received.

    Lately I’ve been reading a lot about St Francis too.

    Some days it is really hard for me to remember good people, I’m trying hard to fix that but I take this all as a reminder that there is good in this world. That is what I want to strive to emulate.

    Oh Apple Health. I know it's a bit of a BS metric but I was pretty glad that I had gotten it's VO2 Max measurement almost too above average, especially as it's frustrated me since getting the watch as it is consistently about 10pts below FitBit's measurement.

    I've been less active due to issues this past month and, in one measurement yesterday, it took me from the record high of last month all the way to "Low."

    F U Apple!

    Our beautiful 19-yr old kitty is sadly on her way out. I brought her home in D.C. because a coworker was moving to Australia and didn’t want her to suffer through all the customs and quarantine stuff. We adopted her (or vice versa?) and she has been very loved - always the queen of our home.

    We can all sense that she’s not doing well these past couple of days. We’re doing our best to ease her suffering, but I don’t think she has much more time here.

    Hug your pets.

    @itsjustdj I’m so sorry to here this. We lost our Lindy at the end of February. Losing a furry family member is never easy.
