I have been programming since I was 12 (born in '73 #genx), currently enjoy coding in #Rust. I use Linux every day; I prefer open to closed. I try to live and let live when it comes to people's tech choices.

I work in tech but am learning how better to separate that from my passion for programming.

I used to podcast, I plan to again soon.

I practice #zazen, #qigong, and #taichi every day.

I am remembering something I understood intuitively when I was very young.

I feel better when I move.

It isn't about sport or exercise, though they can work. Perhaps hard to explain other than by contrast.

I was super passive yesterday, didn't even do any qígōng or táijì. I felt low all day and even into this morning.

I just came in from an hour of yard work and now feel massively better despite it being a chore I have disliked so much I spent years avoiding it.

Good morning and TZAG, friends. :totoro:

I received word from the external recruiter last night that I can expect an offer . I am still waiting on the details but feeling immense relief already. This is from the opportunity I am most interested in. After my final interview for the other opportunity, I would not be surprised if they made an offer too.

Otherwise the day is gray but I don't mind. The good news is enough for me. Likely to spend today celebrating anyway.

I am getting a little more comfortable with the pace of my new $dayjob. I feel like I have as much time to think about the problem as I do planning for and building the solution.

For the final eight months of $dayjob2021 I barely had time to implement what was needed let alone fully consider my approach. I got lucky as often as not and developed a knack for thinking very quickly in code.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

we are back around to weekly chores once again. My list is light, only groceries and laundry.

I am still pondering how I might like to spend the rest of my day. The sun is bright but it is still a little cold. I may still spend some time reading on the deck or the patio. I could resume work on my big LEGO set or build some more momentum on yesterday's writing.

The day seems filled with opportunities and enough motivation to enjoy them.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I managed to get up with the sun and about to head out for an early run.

We may head to the nursery later. We have an idea to maybe help with our heeler mix digging up the sod to make herself little dirt beds for napping.

Otherwise more reading and coding in the mix and likely resuming work on my current essay.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

is my first day at my new $dayjob. I am enjoying a quick breakfast before heading out for a run. I am glad I practiced a tighter morning routine last week. I may now be a morning person but not inherently.

The order of the day will be on boarding. I start with a 1:1 with my boss to get access to engineering specific resources and have a couple of generic new hire activities later in the agenda.

I think I have finished adjusting to the time change . My sleep was a little degraded last night, apparently next to no deep sleep, but otherwise fine. My morning movement and meditation effectively cleared out all the cobwebs.

A silver lining of struggling with the time change is noticing how my routine is actually more effective than anything else in waking me up. Surprising after years of relying on coffee to do the same.

I spent my morning gardening, again. I was sure to use my kneeling pad. I was mostly working on removing the Jacob's ladder. Pretty low stress on my back, thankfully. I also did the get dianthus and peony in the ground and watered.

My blood pressure is up . That isn't a euphemism. I am measuring a few times a day to prepare for a follow up in a couple of weeks after a change to my hypertension medication.

Mostly my blood pressure has been fine. I've noticed one or two other spikes in the last couple of weeks but they were momentary. Today it is remaining high and I think it is stress.

I say "think" because I don't feel especially stressed but know myself well enough to recognize that I have been ruminating.

We spent our afternoon gardening, @kamikat planting in the front yard, me inside the fence.

We planted a flat of impatiens out front and another of petunias in the long bed right by the south gate. It was Andrea's idea to fill in some sparse areas in both new and old beds. The petunias will bloom alternating purple and yellow.

A flat of petunias, without blooms yet, planted in rows just inside the low edging of a long bed along a fence

My next #LEGO set arrived. I've been enjoying X-Men '97. I read much of the comics the original series drew on. It's been fun watching this season that's after I stopped reading the comics. #GenX

I assembled our new rake and broke it in cleaning up all the wet, dead, grass clippings in the backyard.

Our old rake was long lost before finishing renovations last Summer.

The fescue is still too long in spots but hopefully won't keep dying back or encouraging mushrooms. I'm hoping 2-3 days of dry weather will help more now that everything is cleaned up.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I was hoping might start with some sun but woke to more gray. If the forecast is accurate, we should get some sun midday and all day tomorrow.

I missed my window for a run this morning. I hurt my foot last night, banged it into Ziggy's crate in the dark, so not sure I wanted to run on it anyway. I will still exercise, my non-running regimen. I do better when I get more exercise in each week rather than let it slide too many days.

I am working on my third experiment with these new to us eati meati brand mycelium cutlets. We don't cook with oil so getting them cooked and sliced without shredding took some figuring out.

I dredged and rubbed the strips with my spice mix and enough water to make a paste. I'm air frying the strips now and very optimistic based on the aroma alone.

My cerebral weather was a little rougher this morning. My equanimity saw me through and I will spend some more time on and off the stool processing.

I have some preparation for a three day $dayjob planning summit at our HQ in DC that starts tomorrow. Otherwise I expect the day to be quiet as most of my colleagues are traveling.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I woke to bright sunshine #today but clouds have already rolled in. I am still trying to decide how I want to enjoy my extra day off. I would like to clear away at least one or two needful things I haven't gotten to this weekend. Otherwise I think I am leaning towards more relaxing and simply following however the day unfolds.

The struggles I started with led to some good.

I practiced equanimity combined with other skills again. I handled "The Interrupt" better. That's a label I really like for the moment between a feeling and a reaction that I picked up from @grueproof. Our video call today was another good that came of meeting my struggle more skillfully.

To use another coinage I really like, this time from @kamikat: today was another day where I was "good but not happy or excited".

Good morning and TZAG, friends. :totoro:

I am having a very good morning after a great evening last night. Something in my equanimity practice clicked last night. The result felt great. I am still figuring out how, what, and if my skills have grown enough to intentional duplicate it. Regardless the experience is encouraging me in my practices.

I hope you have something positive to lift you up into a great weekend.

Another day where my growing equanimity really helped me. This stage of my practice is still young, I will get to layering in benevolence soon enough. Judging from the reactions to my facial expression throughout the day, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I promise this experience is actually less distressing for me than it appears, either in my posts or in person. The feelings are the same as they've always been, how I experience and respond to them is changing.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I woke with anxiety . I often do and am learning how better to deal with it. I have to lead a meeting with my new team later this morning. Could be simple social anxiety but may be connected with other concerns about being a new employee.

I've tapped into my equanimity and deployed some tools. I am good, if not happy or excited. At all events, I will feel better after the meeting. And hopefully have another experience to help tame that specific anxiety.
