Help mastodon gardeners, setting up my automatic waterer and no matter how tight I screw on the hose end it sprays water everywhere. Am I missing a seal or something? I don’t recall it having one before (this is my replacement timer after I accidentally left my old one out in the cold). I’ve tried some plumbers tape to no avail too.

Edit: going to get an o ring for the timer unit and see how that goes.

Apple Weather's 12-hour precipitation map takes so long to load in every time that 9/10 times I just close it and give up. Is that a universal experience? Or are Apple's local CDNs just abnormally slow here?

This progress bar either stalls or takes upwards of 30 seconds to resolve.

My entire schooling and college life was spent in alienation & bullying which I'm only now starting to realize via friend comes under "little t" trauma.

I think it's part of what drives me to learn to make tools to assist autodidactism, self-directed learning

Hence the whole dream of making self-directed learning accessible for people who are alienated, who feel alienated. In their school, home, college, workplace.

Asked this Q in general but it was for me throughout formal edu life

Midjourney v6’s new text feature is kinda fun — it does a much better job of integrating readable text into generated images

As a user, I'm not mad about the Adobe/Figma breakup. But as a former-startup person, I feel super bad for the founders now under immense pressure to deliver financially for their backers.

How Figma treats their people as they deal with the fallout of this is going to be referred to for a long time. Let's hope it's an example to follow that honors their humans and the importance of design.

Said goodbye to some truly amazing people at work today. We got acquired. They were cut.

It’s brutal. There’s no accounting for cultural qualities at this scale. Just a cleaver spreadsheet and email combo.

I need to write about the experiences from the last 7 years. But for now, letting stages of grief happen seems good.

We’re on the look for a new family car and I’ve been pleasantly impressed with the BMW X5/X6. 2023 models have nice climate controls: physical switches and a little screen showing mode, degrees, etc

Then I drove the new 2024 model. And got this absolute mess:

Carmakers, please stop using screens instead of buttons. This is not an upgrade.

Logged into the Xsite today and realized there’s no way I’m ever browsing it with kids around, or even coming back to it for that matter. You never know what garbage content will show up in a thread now. It’s just a vestigial lump now. I don’t know what to do with it.

Attempting to do user research synthesis via Meet and Miro and it’s terrible compared to doing it in person at a whiteboard. The tools just aren’t there yet.

Is it not feasible for Reddit or Twitter to sue the companies behind LLM bot scrapers?

Surely a terms of service or equivalent could provide cover? What am I missing? IP addresses can be traced.

Is this just an excuse to extract revenue from users directly? Something more nefarious? A brain worm spreading through SV?

I really don’t get it. Someone point me to a good source please? I need to understand why the web of the 2010’s is closing doors.
