cobyalmond,

Is it not feasible for Reddit or Twitter to sue the companies behind LLM bot scrapers?

Surely a terms of service or equivalent could provide cover? What am I missing? IP addresses can be traced.

Is this just an excuse to extract revenue from users directly? Something more nefarious? A brain worm spreading through SV?

I really don’t get it. Someone point me to a good source please? I need to understand why the web of the 2010’s is closing doors.

@cobyalmond I hadn’t actually thought of that. But maybe neither did they, and scraping data for the purposes of training an LLM was never explicitly disallowed so therefore it’s implicitly allowed? In any case, the horse has bolted and it would be difficult and expensive to sue so maybe they’ve concluded there’s no point.

cobyalmond,

@ratkins I thought similar
