what's the difference between kbin and lemmy? if i go here kbin isn't on the list, so is kbin like it's own thing? still kinda trying to figure this out lol

Also, kbin and lemmy interoperate with eachother, as does mastodon (although mastodon does it much worse), to clarify.

You don't need to care whether you use lemmy or kbin except in deciding which UI you prefer, essentially.

I'm just curious, since I tend to get attached to my accounts but I also like having access to all information so I don't want to use a defederated instance. If, say, kbin got overrun by bad actors and was defederated by everyone else, is the only option to jump ship? Unfortunately I don't have the capability to selfhost or I...

No, these are projects to improve the state of lemmy, they are in order

tafkars-lemmy, this will allow reddit apps to work with lemmy by simply replacing the URL, essentially. Meaning we'll have all the 3rd party apps that reddit broke.

automatically staying on your instance when provided links to others, this will make it so that you don't get kicked to another instance when somebody gives you a link to a community, they're also adding instance-agnostic linking.

the final thing automatically compiles communities into lists, so that you can easily find all of the communities of a certain type and subscribe to them all automatically, and look at them all at once.

I'm going to have to take a moment to discourage outdoor cats, they're wrecking havoc on the ecosystem, I understand this is a controversial stance because we as a culture have grown to love doing this, but in areas where they're not native, they're causing great harm.

It's good that they are indoor cats, but whether or not the article is personal is irrelevant, the point is the amount of havoc they're causing. They're an invasive species, they kill 1.4-3.7 BILLION birds and 6.9-20.7 billion mammals in the US alone annually.

They are in fact, the most damaging invasive species in history, and we feed and house them to ensure they keep going, the fact of the matter is we're letting loose efficient little murder machines, and that isn't the cats fault, its ours. We shouldn't allow people to keep invasive species outdoors, the ecosystem is vital.

Unfortuantely not all containers are created equal. A harness is guaranteed safety for wildlife, a backyard is not. That is why your post was singled out.

You must know there's a difference between people living places, and encouraging the spread of invasive species. Not to say you are doing that.

It seems odd to me to antagonize something you don't care about. The point was not to upset you, or to say that you're doing a bad job, I simply believe it is important to raise awareness about the subject of keeping cats outdoors.
