@communist@beehaw.org

I’m an anarchocommunist, all states are evil.

Your local herpetology guy.

Feel free to AMA about picking a pet/reptiles in general, I have a lot of recommendations for that!

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

If there’s not going to be federation via activitypub I will not continue to use beehaw at all, so, this was very unfortunate to read.

This isn’t a reason federation doesn’t work at all, that implies a fundamental issue with federation, this is why focusing on performance instead of mod tools and helping content filtering doesn’t work, the same would’ve happened to a massive centralized service without proper mod tools.

Discord Alternatives?

Hi all, I’m looking for some Discord alternatives. All I really need is the ability to do voice calls and screen shares. It can be either via DM or channels, I only need to it be able to speak with a few friends that’d be open to moving over. I’ve tried Matrix/Element but there doesn’t seem to be a screen share function....

How is Lemmy not a forum?

communist,
@communist@beehaw.org avatar

What exactly does it do worse than one of those?

communist,
@communist@beehaw.org avatar

github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2043

here’s an issue tracker for that, I don’t think it’s really something that fundamentally makes it worse than a forum, honestly.

Competition often does not drive innovation in the software world, quite the opposite, free open source software allows collaboration between many people to better innovate than competition ever could, especially in this particular space.

It sounds like you can’t find something to be proud of so you latched onto being a white man, honestly.

And the thing about being proud to be black for example makes sense because black people were stripped from their cultural identity, white people weren’t, you can be proud to be Irish, you can be proud to be British, you can be proud to be american, but white isn’t really… A thing, it’s just your race, if that makes sense.

communist,
@communist@beehaw.org avatar

I am me, but I’m also white and a male and you are allowed to say all white men should die.

This is a weird made up assumption, the rest of it falls apart when you realize nobody says that.

communist,
@communist@beehaw.org avatar

If you read anything other than the headline, none of those articles make your point for you.

What you’ve discovered is that outrageous headlines get clicks… not that there’s a systemic problem against being white.

Do you honestly think I couldn’t find a series of articles saying that black people are evil/inferior, or any other group? it’s not hard. It doesn’t reflect the genuine state of the world, you seem to be very chronically online.

I mean, be honest with yourself, do you think blacks are in a better position than whites socially in the real world? Honestly?

communist,
@communist@beehaw.org avatar

Okay, you do realize you’re comparing… headlines you don’t like, to… false arrests, planting evidence, lynching, etc, right?

It would be fucked up to write an article like that about black people, because black people are literally, measurably, and actually being hurt for their skin color, regularly. White people are hurt in what ways, exactly? headlines you don’t like? being forced to acknowledge that your group of people has done fucked up things to minorities? These aren’t really issues on equal footing.

It’s hard to feel bad for you when you’re trying to say you somehow have it worse than people who are actually persecuted in meaningful substantial ways that don’t just hurt your feelings.

Anonfiles is shutting down (anonfiles.com)

After trying endlessly for two years to run a file sharing site with user anonymity we have been tired of handling the extreme volumes of people abusing it and the headaches it has created for us. Maybe it is hard to understand but after tens of million uploads and many petabytes later all work of handling abuse was automated...

You should read stirner.

I think the notion that humans are evil means you must be a conservative is laughable honestly. I’m a communist and I certainly don’t believe humans are naturally good or selfless in any way.

US picks the first two sites for carbon-capture hubs (arstechnica.com)

On Friday, the US Department of Energy announced that it chose the first two sites to host facilities that will pull carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and permanently store it underground. The sites in Louisiana and Texas will be funded by money set aside in the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was passed early in...

You can always fix that by not using fossil fuels to power these, though.

This is a proper extension store announcement.

What is your unbiased opinion on Manjaro?

I am a Linux noobie and have only used Mint for around six months now. While I have definitely learned a lot, I don’t have the time to always be doing crazy power user stuff and just want something that works out of the box. While I love Mint, I want to try out other decently easy to use distros as well, specifically not based...

communist,

I installed Manjaro for many people and have thoroughly regretted it, using it was a battle and over time the install would for seemingly no reason break.

I no longer give people manjaro, endeavor is significantly better. Or the arch installer.

Is it just me or is it lemmy shit?

Since Day One (spez’ fuckup) I have been trying to use and like lemmy but it just doesn’t work right at all. Like as in never did. Communities disappear randomly, posts don’t load, submissions have no comments, you name it. At this point I am considering going back to reddit just like everyone else I know that used to care...

How to create an Element Room with configurations suited for my less techy family?

Could someone recommend how I could create a private Element room with settings that make it easier for my family members with less technical experiences to chat in while ensuring privacy, for example, disabling E2E & session verification etc. I am also new to this app and don’t know the way around it very much so I don’t...

Wait until element x releases, please. My family had terrible experiences with the element app
