look I don't know what's going on but the real crime here is that nobody from Meta offered me to sign an NDA which I could promptly reject

or maybe they did who knows I'm terrible at email

Updating node dependencies is a full-time job.

Are other ecosystems this bad?

cwebber,

@nolan "Let's Package jQuery: A Javascript Packaging Dystopian Novella" https://dustycloud.org/blog/javascript-packaging-dystopia/

still true 8 years later. no wait, even more true

can't wait to be even truer a decade later

You think X is bad?! No hold on, look at Y, Y is bad.

Now, as you can see, X was good all along. #QED

I hate that in largely my lifetime humanity has transformed the Earth from a really nice place to live into inhospitable flaming garbage

cwebber,

"What was life like when you were growing up grandma"

"Well, we could breathe, and we didn't live on a giant garbage heap floating in the middle of the ocean, and there were even rainforests"

"REAL rainforests?"

"Real ones"

cwebber,

"did you ever visit the rainforests grandma?"

"FUCK no are you kidding me I'm scared of all the things in rainforests. but I liked knowing they were there"

cwebber,

@loke @neal sorry this one was meant to be making fun of myself for liking nature but not liking being in nature

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called "javascript"? It's like Java, but scriptable

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called "forth"? big upgrade over the third one

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called "E"? they decided that "D" must have been a cursed name for a programming language since nobody picked it after "C" (actually this one is a true story)

cwebber,

(that and Crockford made a logo and everyone thought it was cool and because the name of the company was Electric Communities)

cwebber,

Have you heard of this new programming language called "lisp"? it's really fresh and new, that's why only a few people know it

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called erlang? it's a programming language for women, comes in pairs for the hetros, hislang and 'erlang

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called 8086 assembly? I don't think this one is going to have much of an impact

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called TECO? it's good for writing editors in because it's very readable

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called bash? great, intuitive syntax for writing for loops where you separate the items by newlines

cwebber,

have you heard of this new programming language called latex? they called it that because of binding books

cwebber,

@00dani d lang existed later, unaware its territory was cursed

The legend of "x86 CPUs decode instructions into RISC form internally" https://fanael.github.io/is-x86-risc-internally.html

Interesting analysis and I'm not familiar enough with processor design to have heard this legend thrown around. The tl;dr is... it's true in a lot of places, but not all, especially as the architecture has varied over time. But given that I never heard the "legend", I was interested to find out it was true at all!

WHO KNOWS!! come see us at Hack & Craft tho!
