I’m just another nerd.

I’m a computer enthusiast. I love retro gaming, retro hardware and specially old thinkpads. I also love using/creating & contributing to FOSS. I’m a Linux fanboy aswell. Also a proud user of Fedora Kinoite.

d4r1us_drk,

Tutanota is good in any other language other than Spanish (and maybe Portuguese), my native language is Spanish and when I have to tell someone my email address, it sounds weird

d4r1us_drk,

I’ve been living with chronic asthma my whole life, I was born premature, 7 months specifically (also 10 days in a incubator), and ever since my lungs are terrible. When I was a young child my parents had to take me to the emergency room constantly because of asthma attacks and often I had to stay at the hospital under constant supervision. What I know is how it feels to not be able to breathe, but I can’t imagine how my parents felt. I hope your son is better now.

d4r1us_drk,

Pretty much every anticheat is literally a rootkit, most of them have deep low level access to your system (yes at a kernel level). So this is why I don’t play most online games, I wouldn’t let this proprietary anticheat rootkit garbage get that deep into my system.

d4r1us_drk,

I use vifm because of bulk rename, it literally opens a vim buffer with each file name as a separate line. Just think about the possibilities… (I know this is possible somewhere else, but I haven’t found anything similar)

What non-FOSS software are you using that you wish you could replace?

For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....

d4r1us_drk,

Rnote is pretty good for handwritten notes, the canvas can be paged too.

Google is working on essentially putting DRM on the web (github.com)

The much maligned “Trusted Computing” idea requires that the party you are supposed to trust deserves to be trusted, and Google is DEFINITELY NOT worthy of being trusted, this is a naked power grab to destroy the open web for Google’s ad profits no matter the consequences, this would put heavy surveillance in Google’s...

d4r1us_drk,

The government won’t regulate big tech if that doesn’t give them any benefit. Governments want to control big tech to gain more power.

d4r1us_drk,

What's Beehaw's opinion on Facebook doing NDAed meetings with fedi admins/devs? (fedipact.online)

So, recently some fediverse admins (mostly Mastodon) and the founder of Mastodon, Eugen Rochko (Gargron), where contacted by Meta/Facebook for an NDA meeting. We know nothing about it, but we're pretty sure that it was about this project92 thing that Meta/Facebook is creating to "compete" with Twitter....

d4r1us_drk,

Meta is creating a platform similar to Mastodon and Twitter, using Activity Pub. They also plan to integrate this platform with Instagram. This is what Project92 is about. That's why they're contacting Mastodon/Pixelfed andmins and developers.

d4r1us_drk,

Some people that weren't contacted by Meta are singing this pact to block Meta's Project92 as soon it comes up in the Fediverse. We know little about the ones that were contacted.

d4r1us_drk,

And looks likr the meeting has already happened.

d4r1us_drk,
d4r1us_drk,

I'm not particularly interested in anything that Meta/Facebook has ever created. Everything that this company has made or touched has been horrible/dangerous/terrible for everyone and I don't think that this isn't the case. Also that article that you linked is behind a paywall ._.

d4r1us_drk,

Yup, it seems like it did

d4r1us_drk,

I think that it would be a wiser decision to block the Meta platform anyway, because it will have a lot of traffic and it will overload other smaller instances (If I'm not mistaken). I agree with you that this is harmless for the time being, but an NDA is still a bad sign. I like Fosstodon, so I won't move to any other instance for now.

d4r1us_drk,

Meta open sourcing their AI is great and hypocritical at the same time. Like yes we agree that AI shouldn't be controlled by a couple of powerful American companies, but we still need to have full control over the algorithm that literally manipulates users internationally on a daily basis.

d4r1us_drk,

That's also a possibility, maybe they don't want anything about Project92 to be disclosed at the moment. I'm still worried.

d4r1us_drk,

I didn't knew that TruthSocial had anything to do with ActivityPub. Thanks for pointing that out. Let's just hope that they will defederate themselves...

d4r1us_drk,

Yup, there's literally war between mastodon.art and mstdn.social rn because of this

d4r1us_drk,

Man that prayer was fkng funny xD, specially mentioning Torvalds and Stallman is a gigachad move

d4r1us_drk,

That's awesome dude, that's another benefit of FOSS, we can learn and enyoy technology way more. Also thank you for reading!

d4r1us_drk,

This will be an extremely hot take for some: Almost all recent online games are complete garbage that solely exist to make profit and create addicted user bases and they hurt what videogames truly are, a revolutionary and interactive form of art.
