I wonder if Costco leaving Docklands is as disastrous for Docklands as some seem to think?
Do many people go to Costco and also patronise other venues at Docklands? Or do most of them drive to Costco and then drive home?
Is that land better used by something else, something more compatible with the precinct? (Or will another big warehouse retailer also dominated by car access replace it?) https://www.3aw.com.au/major-retailer-to-close-docklands-store-in-huge-blow-to-precinct/

A few months old, but I hadn't seen this before: proposal for an underground rail loop, as well as light and heavy rail extensions. https://www.indaily.com.au/news/2023/11/08/adelaide-underground-rail-key-to-transport-vision

I don't even drive that much, but Google Maps has sent me down long perilous dirt roads without warning, and likes to recommend spending $10+ on toll roads to save 1 minute.
So I switched to Apple Maps, which recently has tried to direct me down a road closed for works, and on another trip diverted me (on the promise of saving time) from a relatively free-flowing road into a huge traffic jam.
Neither of them are outstanding.

Follow-up to a blog post last year: comparing PT patronage per capita around Australia.
And also: how often do people use buses?

Through most of the 1980s and 90s, public transport in Victoria was in decline. It started to turn around after 2000, with investment in V/Line (RFR), growth in CBD jobs, and arguably this pivotal moment 20 years ago tonight: when government was finally forced to take New Year's Eve seriously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTjnf7BKfxI

It’s about 3 weeks since I sent feedback in to PTV about this signage at Ormond, McKinnon and Patterson being wrong. The quick easy fix is to simply remove them. No action (or even a reply) yet.

I wrote this in March - I'm glad I did, because it helped my thinking around the issue of transport and the cost of living crisis.

If governments really want to provide relief to household budgets, more station car parks or discounted public transport fares make little difference.
To make a big impact they need to provide options that make PT/walking/cycling good enough that a household can run fewer cars.

In comparing the costs of cars vs public transport, they excluded most of the costs of cars. Huh?!

'Though car ownership usually involves additional costs such as maintenance, registration and insurance, which can increase the total cost of ownership, for this story we only considered petrol and toll costs'

(And PT still came out cheaper)

Ten years ago this month the new (now current) rail map draft was released into the wild. It took a few revisions, but eventually it replaced the old (horrible) one.
