I don’t think I’m saying anything new here, but if the free software is superior, then it’s easier to make the argument to try it out. If it just has similar functionality, then there’s little incentive to move over. A good example is GIMP being presented as an alternative to Photoshop. It’s not. Not even close. And I hate Adobe and refuse to pay for their crap. Even price isn’t enough. If your job/business depends on a piece of software that cost a lot of moolah Vs. an unknown free application, the free software loses. So you need a superior application plus an easy way to migrate all your data.
Krita rocks! It’s amazing if you’re a freehand artist. I think the brush engine is better than PS. Krita is also fast and can handle large images with multiple layers with no problems.

While I really like the Genesis/Megadrive, and PS1, I have to say the SNES is an almost perfect console. It had everything that made the NES great, but with beautiful 16 bit graphics.
Where was all that outrage from you all when everyone was downloading and pirating copyrighted music by groups like Metallica? If you were around back then, my guess is, you were all firing up Kazaa and Napster and didn’t give a shit.
Open-earedness refers to an individual’s desire and ability to listen and consider different sounds and musical styling. Research has shown that adolescents exhibit higher levels of open-earedness, with a greater willingness to explore and appreciate diverse musical genres. Dear @firefox : Please stop saving images as webp when I drag them out of the browser. Forever stop that. Even if they are webp originally, just give me a setting to auto-convert them to JPEG. When I get a webp file the first thing I have to do is convert it manually if I'm going to do anything with it.
Webpee is more Google shit being forced down our throats. They absolutely will eventually phase out all other graphic formats on Chrome. These giant tech companies are breaking the Web and this is just another example of them throwing their weight around.
This! Mobile operating systems are trash, and there’s no good reason for it. I always see people parroting the same nonsense, “you have the power of a super computer in your pocket”. Okay, then why can’t I use it like a supercomputer? It’s all crippled toy versions of the desktop applications, social media garbage, or microtransaction stuffed toilet games.
I really want to use AI like llama, ChatGTP, midjourney etc. for something productive. But over the last year the only thing I found use for it was to propose places to go as a family on our Hokaido Japan journey. There were great proposals for places to go....
Reddit is a lost cause. Even without ads, it’s clear that Reddit management is pushing a lot of mindless junk to the front page. It didn’t used to have so many moronic and fake AITAH and AskReddit posts (which in turn are posted by bots or paid posters) at the top. The whole thing is a steaming pile but people who’ve spent years on the site don’t want to give it up.
YouTube is getting really bad, so it’s difficult to blame them for leaving. I guess many people are oblivious to YouTube’s enshittification. However, as far as I know, most of Nebula’s creators are still on YouTube, and they have way more videos, so I’m not sure how these guys think this is going to work out. It will almost certainly arrest any growth they had.

I’ve reinstalled a few times throughout the years, simply because I didn’t want to deal with fixing something, mainly a bloated mess with multiple desktops. Sometimes it’s faster to back up home and nuke it from orbit.
Today in a Privacy community a post about YouTube. No word about privacy but all about which software or settings are needed to watch videos and the money needed to host videos. It made me wonder whether some of you can lead a meaningful life without YouTube. Or will a cold turkey bring the worst out of you ?
There are a lot of great creators on YouTube, and I would definitely miss their videos. But if YT gets much worse (and it’s getting worse by the day), I can live without it.
No matter how stupid the management is, I’ll still use FF over Chrome. Even so, Mozilla is lost in their own bullshit. That “workshop” is like some crap from kindergarten. Just make a good browser ffs. They can’t get it through their thick skulls that the browser isn’t the destination, it’s the means to getting there.
Don’t underestimate the power of nerds. Computer nerds influence tech purchasing decisions, both at home and on the job. The less tech savvy often ask “the computer person” what they recommend. Nerds have actually been astonishingly patient with MS, for decades. But the worse MS makes Windows, the less and less likely they’re going to go with the default, “just buy Windows” answer.
Yes, we need more artists defending capitalism with futile, annoying, and inaffective attempts at DRM. I guess we didn’t learn anything from the music DRM wars in the 00s.

Windows 7 with Aero Glass, in my opinion, was the last version of windows that actually felt warm and comfortable to use. 8, 10 and 11 all feel so cold, sterile and boring. (i.redd.it)
