I was at the workshop by Jaap Meijers (@tjaap) and played with a huge solar cell and some 9V batteries and lasers and that was fun! :)

Workshop was called "Light modulation: Listening to Light, Seeing Sound"

I'm ready for the #Hackaday weekend!

Today me and a friend have spent a lot of time scratching paint with a needle so that the laser engraved paint wouldn't look like you have an eye problem.

Learned later that I shouldn't have laser engrave the resin print as that can produce cyanide apparently. Guess I was lucky that it didn't go fully through?

I might have an idea on how to fix that sig gen / scope indicator label on the bottom right.

Space Exploration Kit:

  • Build a mini solar system model with LED-lit planets
    Use different sized LEDs to demonstrate different planet sizes and add relative distances.

  • Create a simple radio receiver tuned to pick up signals from space or simulate communication between spacecraft
    I'm afraid that's not easily possible without a ham license of sorts.

  • Construct a light-up rocket ship or satellite
    There's a blinkyparts LED rocket. Been done before.

Small openscad draft with 1mm WS2812 LEDs. Size and distance are to scale - ish, not to each other though. I don't really see kids soldering 1mm neopixel LEDs or me ordering 90cm PCBs so we can use 3mm LEDs. Hmm. Although it would be fun to use 3mm, 5mm. 8mm and 10mm LEDs here.

I guess saturn needs a ring and I could add some moons. I'm wondering if I should add LEDs on top or let them shine through.
