Pretty sure I understand what Jack Dorsey was saying about his disappointment with Bluesky. The mistake they made at Twitter was taking responsibility for enforcing decorum, which is completely diseconomic. A fully decentralized system is very different.

I was 'kicking the tires" signing up for Threads and the VERY FIRST thing I noticed is that people I don't follow are showing up in my feed!

After so much time in the fediverse, this just feels like a violation. NOPE NOPE NOPE

i think the way to go is to start a new platform that supports all of the features of textcasting, does it as part of its stated mission, and then build from there. and let some of the features filter back into this layer of the social web.

at least that's the approach i'm taking. ;-)

Disagree with @semaforben"s setup for his interview with Joe Kahn. We who criticize The Times don't want it to help Biden win. We want it to fully report on what is at stake with the rise of fascism in the US and to report fairly on Biden.

I don't know how you feel but I'm tired of people using the term "podcast" when I can't find it at the place where I get my podcasts. You'd think by now they'd drop the pretense that they're podcasts. This is something the users could fix. Because eventually the big companies will own all the podcasts just like they own all the other kinds of news.
