The American iolaire, not the other one :-) Arlington DC based. I’m a retired data scientist who worked in the commercial real estate data industry for 25-years. My wife and I travel as our main hobbies. I’ve been in the miles and points game for many years. I support Kiva.org. Prior to a Kidney Transplant I was on dialysis for three years and continued to travel receiving dialysis treatments around the globe. It’s easier now.

Great minds seem to think about the same thing - I just read @davew's "A free idea for Apple that might boost their stock price." post hopeing apple adds transcription to the voice notes app - http://scripting.com/2024/05/08.html#a143605 then in the same RSS reader session come across this DR. WERNER VOGELS, "The anatomy of a simple audio summarization app" using ASW Bedrock - obviously not apple https://www.allthingsdistributed.com/2024/05/hacking-our-way-to-better-team-meetings.html

@seismo @davew makes sense that google would have it. This Dave add on would be achievable today and a good addition.

“They also provide an edited version of the memo, without repetition and rambling, and sidebars (they can be treated as sidebars, and appear at the end).”

Bob Marley and the Whalers

@NunavutBirder off topic but my wife is watching movie/documentary "Grandpa Was an Emperor" the story of fall of the Ethiopian Empire told from the grand children's reconstruction of the history. Bob is featured as he was friends with one of the grandkids in London and helps get two airplanes to fly out the small children while the parents were held in prison. It's an interesting story since I now next to nothing history wise on both Ethiopia and Bob Marley, the Rastafari religion.

    Here is a nice write up of from Tahoe to SFO via public transportation for a user. I'm always impressed and happy to see this traveler's blog posts.

    This is not mine, it's from a colleague who posted it to our work Slack. But it's far too good to be left languishing there, so here's my (stolen, but I'm sure they'll understand) contribution to .

    @losttourist that was quite fun, thank you

    @seachanger nice I’ve walked that stretch in my day. The instance it made me recall the tide was running stronger.

    I’m surprised the setup process for every new iPhone still asks whether you want to use FaceID with a mask when 99+% of people aren’t wearing face masks any more. There are lots of features that a small percentage of people use, but they don’t get asked in the device setup process.

    iolaire,
    @iolaire@masto.ai avatar

    @gruber I use my iPhone with my mask and Apple Watch daily. About about 5% of DC WAMTA passengers masking, the numbers are up recently corresponding to increased spread levels.

    @gruber yes but I’d hope everyone recognizes that COVID is still an extreme risk. Apple seems to.

    what's the best way to launch a personal blog in 2023 with the lowest odds that anyone who isn't me will ever have the power to take it down?

    (i.e. not on substack or some similar platform controlled by others)

    See the announcement of Seth’s new AI-based blog search, mentioned parenthetically after today’s post about the price of salt. It’s the real deal, a breakthrough, gives me blog-envy. 🙄

    @dave Dave, I see a financial blogger was offered such a bot and passed - https://avc.com/2023/05/aivc-2/ so the company must be doing the blog circuit.
