@luciedigitalni so close! You'd think after > 1700 days of Duolingo I'd be able to sort that out by now.

When we got home yesterday, we discovered youngest child had done pretty much nothing to get his car fixed and it was still stuck under the house (unable to change gear).

I did a bit of web searching, watched some videos from mechanics and found it's the shift linkage bushing (confirmed this morning when I pulled the centre console housing out).

Looks like I might actually be able to fix it myself, but am currently awaiting said child to breakfast and get dressed as he really needs to see what it is and how to fix it, for his own good.

For reasons I didn’t bother to find out, there’s a Matilda tank in the park in Singleton.

This Optus outage probably points to the advisability of having two different Internet sources, one via NBN and one via mobile. I have iiNet NBN at home and Telstra 5G on my phone, so I assume they wouldn't crash at the same time. (And if they did, we'd have bigger things to worry about, like an alien invasion.)

david,
@david@theblower.au avatar

@timrichards only two?

At home I have starlink with failover to internode adsl and Telstra lte. My mobile is Telstra 5G.

These things are amazing. Not freeze dried raspberries, actual fresh raspberries encased in thick dark chocolate.

My iNaturalist entries are a pretty decent map of where we've been on this trip so far. :)

Went to Eddystone Lighthouse this morning, then to Little Blue Lake, can confirm it is blue. And did a nice short walk through the Myrtle forests in the Blue Tiers. After that we visited a dairy/fromagerie; and Halls Falls (photos of that on the photog.social account).

Stupid late night thoughts. What if instead of water, I put wine in the humidifier on my cpap machine?

(No, I didn’t do it)

Spent the last 45 mins or so remotely instructing youngest son how to change a tyre.

He got there in the end, so that’s a win.

Bruny Island so far today.

Obtained cheese, bread, honey, visited a lighthouse (took the tour), saw a giant penguin letterbox, found a very furry echidna then ate said bread, cheese and honey.

Pottering around Port Arthur today. Didn’t take the bird lens ‘cause looking at ruins, etc. immediately see birds I want to get good shots of.

Today we’re going on a boat. This boat to be precise, out to Maria Island.

david,
@david@theblower.au avatar

That was an excellent cruise. We circumnavigated Maria Is. including nosing in to a sea cave, setting a blowhole, visiting some seals, traversing a 2m swell that had us momentarily weightless, before the weather improved and we had a calm cruise up the western side of the island.

Then went for a walk, saw many wombats, some birds, and roos & a pademelon.

The sea cave our boat was inside, as seen from the outside.
A blowhole in a fissure in the cliff face. Water is jetting out some 10m or so in to the air.
Selfie on the boat in the calmer western bay.

If you’re in to geology, there’s a visible unconformity on the eastern side, exposed and easily seen. Is there junction on metamorphic rock below, and limestone layers above.
