Super interesting! Coming from part of the world that’s still developing, I’m amazed that cities put so much effort into designing customised and even novelty manhole covers.
“When you use Signal, your data is stored in encrypted form on your devices. The only information that is stored on the Signal servers for each account is the phone number you registered with, the date and time you joined the service, and the date you last logged on.”...
Indeed. I opened the Signal app after a really long time last week and found that they had added a useless Stories feature like WhatsApp. I uninstalled the app since I never used it anyways.
Edit: Looks like Signal stories can be turned off unlike WhatsApp stories. That’s a win I guess.
I started playing Rainworld, and I really like its survival and mystery elements. The sounds and art is also top notch. I’m also considering picking up the recently released Downpour DLC.

To save a post, you need to tap the bookmark icon next to the downvote arrow. Comments can also be saved by swiping them to the left until you see the bookmark icon.
To view your saved posts, open the navigation drawer (hamburger menu) on Connect and tap on Saved, which is just below Profile.
Strange, I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s just a bug? If you open the reviews section on the Play Store page for the game, and check the “Show reviews for: This device model” checkbox, do you see any reviews from other Pixel 5 users there?

I turned off my activity history, and I’ve noticed a needlessly degraded experience on some Google apps, like in Maps where it no longer labels your home location as “Home”, but it’s a saved location anyway.
One of the things I still love about my 11" MacBook Air is the ease of using multiple desktops (spaces). Even with the tiny screen, I can quickly switch between apps and keep things organised with the trackpad gestures. Drag and drop is also more seamless in macOS compared to Windows.
Anyone trying to batch rename files on Windows should check out PowerToys. It’s a first-party app that adds a lot of useful utilities. One of them is PowerRename, which lets you batch rename files using regex for precise search and replace. It also has the option to preview changes before applying them.
I kinda like it, and hope we see more of this. Maybe skeuomorphism is not the best idea for UI elements these days, but for things like icons it makes perfect sense.
Many apps in iOS still use beautifully detailed icons which make for eyecandy without sacrificing functionality.
Hello!, I was wondering (sorry about this, i’m no Einstein) what can one do with a virtual machine? what I mean by that is what cool things could one do? maybe use it to play older games, perhaps even make it a storage medium?. I sometimes install old OSes on virtual machines purely for the nostalgia. Pair that with some old versions of applications like WinAmp and you’ve got a fun way to spend an evening.
most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate...
I sort by all and new and have seen a fair amount of posts from bots bringing over content from Reddit. A lot of it doesn’t have much if any engagement on here and as far as I can tell even if there was it wouldn’t cross back and forth between the two platforms....
My issue with bot posts is that they lack the authenticity that comes with an actual user’s posts. Isn’t it really nice when an OP sometimes responds to your comments, especially on subs like r/askreddit?
I don’t think we should worry about “user engagement” and growth so much. These are just metrics that companies use to increase profit and get advertisers. People here have already pointed out that they feel more engaged on Lemmy because their submissions feel more valued in this smaller community—they don’t get lost amongst a thousand other comments like on reddit.
I think the focus should be on creating a space where people can have genuine conversations, even if only a few people are involved.

It only becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy if you go into every situation thinking like that. Most people are pretty decent, it's only that they try to do what they believe is right.
