B (not his real name) is a flake. He gets off on the fantasy of being an abused boyfriend. He's exploited by his extended family in un-horny ways. We've chatted off and on for over a decade, and met only a few times out of many potential rendezvous. I've given up on him several times. He still randomly messages me anyway, because he's 56 and has never sucked anyone else's cock. A lot of the time I just leave him on read, which feeds into his scenarios anyway. 1/

@gray17 Not really my kind of scene, but I really enjoyed your write-up. It was pleasant to have an earnest window into this other life at an interesting and complex--if hopeful--moment in time. Thank you for sharing.

the end of secrets of the obscure was awful. i hope anet knows how limp that whole expansion was. good lord.

i wish there was a game that was as fun to play to me as gw2 is, but unfortunately there isnt so i just have to choke down whatever boring content they feed us.

desiree,
@desiree@chitter.xyz avatar

@pixel As a casual who hasn't picked up the expansion, is it actively worse than the end of the main story? Because that's already a pretty low bar.

anyone know of any games they'd recommend to me that are like deep and interesting to sort of chew on but also make me sad a la the drakenier series

ive been looking for a new game to play and i cant think of anything else that fits that mold

desiree,

@pixel Bit of a deep cut, but Iconoclasts fits the mold, despite the art style and metroidvania gameplay.

I'm a big proponent of emojis/emoticons. Language evolves with need, after all, and I don't think anyone doubts the need to shorthand communicate tone when something is ambiguous, or simply the convenience of swiftly communicating emotion ( :blobheart: for example).

And yet, I would be weirded out if I saw the liberal use of emojis in a book. Why is that? My best guess is a certain degree of elitism in the realm of capital-A-Art. After all, would "A Modest Proposal" still be widely regarded satire if it ended with a " :P " at the end, just to make sure people got the joke? Even so, that is elitism and pretension... but is it warranted in some circumstances? Intentional inaccessibility is often a feature of media that stands the test of time (this applies as much to the works of James Joyce as it does to Dark Souls).

I... cannot think of a good counterpoint, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. :blobfoxthink:

@pixel Cannot get my computer to boot at all anymore, let alone to an external device, and the motherboard battery is hiding beneath the video card enclosure, and I am completely out of spoons for this tonight. Thank you for the help, I will try to tackle this again tomorrow.

I tried a Sonic game again recently (Sonic Advanced 2)

It... continues to be a mystery to me what people see in Sonic games

desiree,
@desiree@chitter.xyz avatar

@socks At its core, I think the appeal is the combination of fast reaction tests to keep speed up, and flinging yourself blindly into dangerous situations.

I personally think Freedom Planet perfected the Sonic formula by simply removing contact damage from enemies; as long as you maintain a high speed, you are past enemy encounters without having to engage, which rewards moving fast rather than punishing it.

So... kinda fishing for general anecdotes, thoughts, and advice from the , , and communities (though anyone else is of course free to chime in with thoughts and opinions).

I really only came into identifying as a furry roughly seven or eight months ago, and designing my 'sona was a lot of time and effort spent on introspection and expressing myself in a way that felt right and natural to me.

More recently, over the past three or so months, I've been having occassional feelings of proprioception ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprioception ) associated with non-existent parts of my body that would correspond to my 'sona: mouse-like ears, muzzle with whiskers, a tail, etc. My partners have been supportive of exploring this, which has been really, really affirming... and also leaving me a fair bit confused about identity and label issues.

I am not typically a spiritual person, but even so, I'm open to all perspectives on this. Thanks for reading, boosts always appreciated.

desiree,
@desiree@chitter.xyz avatar

@pixel Oh, I completely agree with respect to self-perception. And I totally get being satisfied with "This makes me comfortable and feels good, so why explore it further?". But at the end of the day, I have been exploring myself a lot lately, and this is a new avenue of exploration for me, so I want to follow it and see where it leads me, I suppose.

Q: "Why is spelling/grammar important if the reader can understand what I'm anyway?"

A: There are two pretty good reasons. The first is simple appeal to authority: readers associate sloppy spelling with sloppy thinking. This is kind of shitty of us as people, but it tends to hold true, especially in areas that want the reader to trust the author (newspapers, long fiction that asks the reader to commit a lot of time up front, etc.).

More importantly, poor spelling and grammar detracts from the reader's attention and ability to focus. Consider: "Th ttl cms t svn dllrs." Most readers can parse this sentence as "The total comes to seven dollars." No real meaning is ultimately lost, but it takes much more attention (or "cognitive load," to use the parlance) to get to the same point of understanding. The brain is subconsciously working out the puzzle of understanding more than focusing on the meaning; multiply that effect out to ten or 200 or 4000 pages, and understanding breaks.

Told one of my normie semi-friend co-workers that Friday would be my last day at work, and he gave me his Steam info for gaming and keeping in touch. My profile page on Steam is much more sanitized than here, buuuut... I'm still furry trash, I'm not going to hide games in my library, and I'm kinda looking forward to the, "Uh, Desiree? What is [insert smutty furry TF VN here]?" conversation if it comes up? :mouse_blob_peek:

@Astia I mean, of course it isn't likely, but at the same time, I'm the sort of person who speculates about and rehearses future potential social interactions as a way to relieve social anxiety. The odds that those scenarios I build up in my head will be useful is close to nil, but having done that prep gives my brain something to latch onto as a way to feel more capable and let go of some of the anxiety.

Think I need to do a more thorough since my original post was a bit memey.

So I'm Desiree, local nerdy-type dormouse. My hobbies include board games, video games, tabletop roleplaying games, and roleplaying in general. (I'm also a bookworm, but that didn't fit the last sentence's theme.) Obviously a furry, and a particular enjoyer of content, though I'm going to refrain from overposting in that vein (maybe 2-3 times a week, reserved for ).

I'm a pretty shy person trying to use this space to come out of my shell and be more authentic. I obsess a lot over what other people think, so I'm trying to move past that and just talk and be myself. I'm pretty shy, but I enjoy meeting chill folks, so please say hi! :mouse_blob_peek:

Apologies to everyone who follows me for transformation and/or TF Tuesday content; my mental health continues to be a trash fire and I have thus far failed to find a viable solution for pre-scheduling image posts on Windows.

It is safe to say I probably won't resume regular posts until at least mid-January.

The other day, I saw a post from someone talking about loneliness and a lack of people to do things with. This post was made by someone who is "internet popular" and runs a Discord server with a whole bunch of people. At first, I was kind of insulted; this person is taking their following for granted and just isn't taking initiative. But as I thought about it, I feel like the disconnect is maybe in language.

Every word has two definitions: the denotative (what it says in dictionaries) and the connotative (our personal understanding of the word, informed by our knowledge, feelings, and experiences). When popular or semi-popular people talk about being lonely, I think what they mean is the lack of close interpersonal connections, not denotative loneliness.

Through that lens, I find it much more relatable; I know intimately the discomfort of being in a place and surrounded by people and feeling utterly alone.

I just don't understand why this person built a space to have that feeling.

I've been bouncing between games lately, so just to get some short thoughts out there:

I Wanna Lockpick: I enjoyed it for quite a while, and the game continues to be clever and inventive, but after a point, the game becomes increasingly math-brained (the whole game is math-brained, but the veneer of pure puzzler becomes thinner), and I am not a pure-maths person. Still an easy recommend for the sheer ingenuity.

Nova Drift: This game is a modern take on the old Asteroids arcade game. I grew up as a poverty kid, and one of the games on my first computer was Asteroids, so it's already hitting a nostalgia nugget in my brain. But the design of Nova Drift understands how to capitalize on Asteroids' movement mechanics in ways that the original really didn't, making for a shockingly strategic action shooter.

desiree,

@pixel I have a level 80 Mesmer I haven't played in a while because I'm indecisive about which elite spec to start first.

This information may influence the decision-making process.

desiree,

@pixel My brain went completely sideways for a minute and forgot that Willbender is a Guardian spec.

I just maxed out Dragonhunter on my Guardian, and am actually leveling Willbender on her next, so I'd be happy to talk shop on that. :mouse_blob_tea:
