desktop_user,

AIs usually try not to allow certain content to be produced, but it seems people are always finding ways to work around those safeguards.

Local model go brrrrrr

desktop_user,

why would someone not immediately disable cloud backups upon purchasing a device? are they stupid?

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads (www.techradar.com)

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

desktop_user,

shitty 50mbps

shitty would be less than 10mbps, perhaps you are from places where the internet isn’t comically expensive.

desktop_user,

I enjoy manipulating the advertising targeting algorithm to give me advertisements for industrial machinery, cloud computing, surveys, targeted advertisements, and other things I am not remotely in the market for.

desktop_user,

just wait until they find transmasc porn

Google's call-scanning AI could dial up censorship by default, privacy experts warn (techcrunch.com)

A feature Google demoed at its I/O confab yesterday, using its generative AI technology to scan voice calls in real time for conversational patterns associated with financial scams, has sent a collective shiver down the spines of privacy and security experts who are warning the feature represents the thin end of the wedge. They...

desktop_user,

sadly there is too much legacy infrastructure to do that without huge problems. Also idiotic forms of two factor authentication exist.

desktop_user,

aye, but do you have a way of managing a physical (noy virtual machine) windows computer so it can be used through the linux system without being aware of it?

desktop_user,

Gore is good, IDK what this post is on about

desktop_user,

there is labor that can* be done with extremely little skill. Think vacuuming a large flat room with nothing valuable on it, that task could be done (more or less) with a robotic vacuum. Entire jobs might not be fully replaced but labor demands can be greatly reduced.

*not necessarily done well, but done to minimum standards

desktop_user,

water, sewer, electricity hookups

These are, in many parts of the US, provided by utility companies and not exactly funded by property tax.

desktop_user,

There are very little, if any, benefits to using a VPN service to browse the public internet.

accessing services that are blocked in your region.

desktop_user,

what kind of inefficient counting method are you using? 12 fingers allows you to count to 8096 with only two states per finger!

desktop_user,

What if I don’t know my sexuality? Can I continue drinking nothing but monster ultra, Celsius, and monster java?

desktop_user,

winget exists in windows 10, I can’t remember if it is a powertoy or in the ms store or a feature flag thing but it is usable in windows 10.

desktop_user,

the backup camera is useful when the rear window is obstructed (such as from mud/dust) and for comically large vehicles where a short pole wouldn’t be visible if it was less than 3ft behind it.

MisterMoo, to firefox
@MisterMoo@mastodon.online avatar

Dear @firefox : Please stop saving images as webp when I drag them out of the browser. Forever stop that. Even if they are webp originally, just give me a setting to auto-convert them to JPEG. When I get a webp file the first thing I have to do is convert it manually if I'm going to do anything with it.

desktop_user,

the problem I have is how several file browsers don’t support generating thumbnails for them, and how a few social media platforms don’t support animated webp.

desktop_user,

I miss discord animated webp with per-frame resolution and aspect ratio.

desktop_user,

sadly most governments won’t allow things that wide on the road 😭😭

desktop_user,

how else are children supposed to communicate with friends other than at school?
