If you’re looking at the All tab, there is no difference between a local post, or a federated post when it comes to sorting.

I was talking about non-local posts. It’s really hard to tell what you’re asking. Click the all button, and now you’ll see federated posts in addition to local ones.

If they made all top-level comments thus suppressing all other activity on the post, what would that mean?

I can’t figure out what this means. New comments are also sorted as hot by default, if you read the doc I linked.

I’m sure the speechwriters are capitalizing on the widely held US view that “politics is all bullshit has nothing to do with me”, hence the “this isn’t the time for politics” line.

This is the correct answer. These “things are getting worse” terms are on the right track, but they don’t describe why things are getting worse.

Class-based systems like feudalism and capitalism have overarching rising and falling phases, and in the late phases, exploitation of our labor increases drastically as the ruling classes fight over a declining surplus. This has rippling effects to every other aspect of society, from how hard we’re forced to work, to the degradation of media, art, politics, etc.

I think the chat bots are, but the upvote bots sure know how to push the most rage-inducing and high-engagement posts to the top. Twitter, youtube, and reddit are very good at that now.

I practice on monkeytype.com . Usually takes about 2 days to get comfortable, and a month to get up to full speed. You can easily get 40wpm with this tho in a short time.

For me the first thing that comes to mind is Tales from Earthsea. I don’t think it’s excellent or anything and has plenty of problems but people act like it killed their dog. While it has its problems that have been covered extensively, I think it has a beautiful atmosphere and art....

Reviews after the 2010s or so get increasingly more untrustworthy, because studios realized that box office returns rely on these ratings now. So now paid reviews and bot ratings become much more important for a newly released movie.

Another prime example: the newer avatar has a higher rating than the first.

To update everyone:

In getting ready for the upcoming lemmy release, we usually deploy a test release here on lemmy.ml (the dev instance) for a few days, to discover any issues for a large production server, so other people don’t have to.

We found a performance issue with this one, so we downgraded back to 0.19.3, and restored from a database backup made a few hours ago.
