disasterpiece,

Well, let’s hear it

disasterpiece,

I don’t think you know anything.

“It’s too much work” - yawnnnn

disasterpiece,

To be fair, Desantis immediately interrupted and said they weren’t going to raise their hands “like children”. No candidate would raise their hand after a comment like that. All their specific answers were certainly not climate friendly, but they are at least a little bit more nuanced than the title implies

disasterpiece,

He had probably already gotten his bit out of the way and didn’t know what to do hahaha

disasterpiece,

As a person who belongs to “the most celebrated people group in the US”, I think it’s important for people like me to see ourselves represented in the world. We are a minority, so it’s noteworthy when a public figure comes out.

And idk man I don’t feel celebrated all that much in the US. Every week I see religious protestors outside the gay bar in my city with signs saying that I’m going to burn in hell for all eternity. I’ve been called a removed more times than I can count for simply holding another man’s hand while walking down the street. I’ve been fired from a job waiting tables because the manager saw my boyfriend pick me up.

Maybe your perspective, as someone who does not live every day of their life as a member of this community, is different. You might see the push to advocate for acceptance of LGBT+ people as “celebrating” them. It is not. It’s tolerance, and we still don’t even have that.

disasterpiece,

Ok I’m just gonna move right past the “actual minorities” thing because… yikes. I hope that just came across wrong because it sounds incredibly insensitive

I think representation is important for all minorities and I can empathize with wishing our elected politicians would do more. Biden has done a lot during his term to support the LGBT community, but obviously there is a lot more that needs to be done. He has promised to pass a bill reaffirming the rights of LGBT people after the recent Supreme Court case. That would be huge but we will have to see if Republicans in Congress prevent it from passing, as they’ve done with countless other progressive proposals.

Here is some of the other work he’s done to support LBGT people. Hope you see that he’s paying far more than just lip service

disasterpiece,

Care to elaborate? The game had an early access and the official release has been incredibly well polished with few bugs that are already being patched out

disasterpiece,

I see you too are a person of taste and watch Veritasium 😛

disasterpiece,

I know you’re just repeating talking points and not actually advocating for one side or the other, but I do want to provide some balance to this part

use their influence to withhold international aid and pressure a foreign government to kill a corruption investigation into the company that you just so happen to sit on the board of

The corruption investigation in Ukraine was being lead by an investigator, Viktor Shokin, who was himself so corrupt that he drew international condemnation (before this investigation was even opened)

Multiple western governments, including the Obama administration, had demanded he be replaced for failing to prosecute corruption cases, and Ukrainian investigators and anti-corruption watchdogs have said that Shokin was fired because he had made no progress in the fight against corruption.

disasterpiece,

I agree with this sentiment but I think the real issue with this change is that Twitter Blue subscribers get their content’s visibility boosted. Without the blue checkmark visible, it’s impossible to tell who had their content boosted through organic engagement, and who paid for it

The Twitter Blue subscribers are not getting mocked for paying to remove ads. They are mocked for paying money to have their voices cary more weight. And they are paying that money to a company that as of late has supported CSAM, racism, and vaccine disinformation.

disasterpiece,

Also used as the album art for the newest album by The Strokes!

disasterpiece,

In the article it says that the companies blocked use of the specific strings documented in the research paper, but that they still don’t have a way of blocking the general method used

disasterpiece,

It’s ok, at least it’s just a website. Would be different if he was designing something like… oh idk… a car that people trust with their lives to drive itself. Or even a massive rocket carrying astronauts and valuable cargo.

disasterpiece,

They are releasing that under a more expensive subscription option. Wish I was joking

disasterpiece,

The production value of his videos has gone up so much in recent years!

Biden prevented the strike but continued to fight for rail workers rights. And they ended up getting what they wanted!

After months of negotiations, the IBEW’s Railroad members at four of the largest U.S. freight carriers finally have what they’ve long sought but that many working people take for granted: paid sick days.

“We’re thankful that the Biden administration played the long game on sick days and stuck with us for months after Congress imposed our updated national agreement,” Russo said. “Without making a big show of it, Joe Biden and members of his administration in the Transportation and Labor departments have been working continuously to get guaranteed paid sick days for all railroad workers.

“Biden deserves a lot of the credit for achieving this goal for us,” Russo said. “He and his team continued to work behind the scenes to get all of rail labor a fair agreement for paid sick leave.”

disasterpiece,

I wish more people knew this! I couldn’t even find a news article with this info. The site I linked is the unions official post.

disasterpiece,

It’s not better if your master stops his friend from beating you and throws a scrap from the table.

It wasn’t a scrap, it was exactly what they were asking for. And it was achieved without a strike that would have cost the economy billions. You are putting words in the unions mouth when their own words are right in front of you. They did not have to thank Biden. If they felt that Biden had “castrated” them they would not have spent so much time praising him for his help.

Railroads now know they never have to negotiate again

Well, except for this time… when they did exactly that. Not sure why you think next time would be different.

Don’t get me wrong, I think everyone should have a right to unionize and I don’t think that Biden should have passed that law. I’m simply calling attention to the fact that Biden still fought hard to give the rail workers what they deserved, while still averting a strike, and was successful. To simply say he “castrated” the union and leave it at that, is ignoring the reality of the situation.

Tickets and receipts are interchangeable. It is an item that shows proof of ownership.

Artists and venues are not capable of building their own ticketing and distribution platforms, which is why companies like Ticketmaster exist in the first place and come with exorbitant fees.

I, as an individual with no funding whatsoever, can create NFTs that could act as tickets to an event while guaranteeing that the tickets can’t be forged.

I honestly do not see how it’s inefficient. The cost is incredibly low. The network almost all NFTs use (Ethereum) has reduced its energy consumption by 99.99% since switching to PoW. From an end-user perspective it would be no different than purchasing a ticket from any other digital storefront. Paying $25 in fees on a $50 ticket is inefficient. Every venue building their own ticketing system is inefficient.

I feel like so many people think I’m some crypto maximalist when I talk about how NFTs are not entirely stupid. NFTs are such a general idea it makes no sense to say that they have no valid use cases unless you believe that all decentralized networks (including the fediverse) are dumb.

disasterpiece, (edited )

A QR code is a link. Who hosts the site? Who is going to pay for the infrastructure, let alone the engineer to set it up? An email has the same problem, what mail server is going to send the email? How do you ensure someone can’t duplicate a ticket? You can’t just make that out of thin air. These systems cost money to create and implement, which is not approachable for individual artists and venues. An NFT takes care of all of that and does it very well at very low cost. Not to mention, the lack of a middle man means all money (besides a small fee to operate on the decentralized network) goes directly to the artists/venue)

I disagree that being able to prove ownership is not a common use case. NFTs aren’t useful in every situation, but when proof of ownership is involved, NFTs are relevant.

Another example of this could be a digital license. Say that you purchased a lifetime license to a piece of software (maybe even a game). You could sell/trade the license to another person on your own terms. I really like this idea because we don’t really “own” any digital goods we purchase now days. If you have a physical game you can sell it to a friend, why not the same for digital ones?

And yes, while they can be stolen, that is not the security they provide. Anything can be stolen. NFTs can’t be forged.

Also want to say thank you for actually asking a question and not just trying to dunk on the whole concept!
