The more I think about it, the more I feel like the Western idea of having to move out at 18 (or even your early 20s) is crazy.

I can't imagine living on my own with the amount I'm making right now.

It just seems much better for both sides financially if you stay with your parents for at least a little while longer after getting a job. That way, both parties get to save a lot in living expenses. It's a win-win.

I get that the point is independence, but also... in this economy?

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@fujiwara Yeah, I've dreamt of enjoying those benefits myself. My short term goal is definitely to be able to move out within the next few years.

Initially, I thought I'd move out a year after I started working, but now I'm not so sure how feasible that is.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@anianimalsmoe yeah, I totally get that. I was talking more about the expectation that you have to move out. But you're right, some people have legitimate reasons to want to move out ASAP.

I'm lucky enough that my relationship with my mom, albeit not the best, is relatively good enough that I can stand to live with her for a (little) while longer.

@chikorita157 student loans are another thing that seem crazy to me. I keep hearing about people spending years paying them off. That really seems like hell when you're just trying to find your footing in your 20s. The show Total Forgiveness on Dropout really opened my eyes to that.

Student loans aren't really a thing here. You can either afford to go to college or not. If you're lucky, you might be able to get a scholarship or some government grant.

I was lucky enough that I met the requirements to enroll in a state university, which are completely free. I don't really know what the average financial situation is for people who weren't as lucky and had to go to private universities. Though, I definitely know people who went to universities that are way out of their budgets...

A prime example of why we need to get a rice cooker: I just burnt the rice because I was working in the other room.

Burnt rice is probably something people with rice cookers never have to deal with.

@anianimalsmoe my mom refuses to get one because we don't have the space for it. Meanwhile, we have a microwave, an oven toaster, and a coffee maker...

I need to be able to figure out where it would fit first before I can convince her to get one.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@anianimalsmoe honestly, putting it in the living room isn't a bad idea. But my mom's too uptight to agree with that :zerotwoshrug:

Our boss doesn't want any loading in our pages, so we just took out the loading screens and skeletons. Hope this makes him shut up about it.

Ugh. Barely got any sleep in my 5-hour bus ride home, and my work starts in an hour and a half.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@fujiwara I am gonna be doing the bare minimum at my work, like I always do 😎

Just with less sleep this time.

Happy 20th birthday Clannad! (JP time) <3

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@ricol03 I really need to find time to play this one of these days. I'm curious what new stuff I'm gonna get from it, having already seen the anime.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@fujiwara Hey, Steins;Gate is probably in my top 10. It's not that weird. Then again, I don't play many of the common game genres anyway 😅

The different routes are definitely one of the reasons I wanna play it. I've also kinda gotten spoiled when looking up explanations for the anime's ending, so I now know some background about how that worked in the game.

I also just really want to see the Kyou (best girl) route.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

@fujiwara we agree on the most important stuff in life: Kaguya-sama is awesome, and Kyou is best girl.

What else do you need in life?

I can imagine how much better it probably is. A lot of the time when playing a VN, I just think there is no way an anime adaptation could possibly replicate a lot of the stuff it does.

AI-generated articles are the worst. I don't think there should even be any debate on this. It doesn't democratize writing or anything. It just fills the web with SEO-friendly garbage.

TinaCMS seems promising, especially with Astro since it supports md files and Tina saves entries as md files locally. I can just directly read the md files instead of fetching entries using Tina's API.

I can't seem to make deployment on Vercel work though.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

me am dumb dumb. I forgot to change the build script to include Tina...

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

Tina doesn't seem to have as many features as Strapi. For one, it doesn't automatically create multiple sizes for images. I wonder if there are plugins for that.

Though, unlike Strapi, Tina actually offers a free tier in their cloud hosting, which might actually be enough for clients with simple websites.

For anything more than that, their paid plans are a bit too expensive for me. Especially since they're per project.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

I'm also deciding if I'll stick with Vercel for my website hosting. I heard Cloudflare Pages is more performant, though they don't seem to offer free domains unlike Vercel.

I guess it's time for me to buy an actual domain anyways. Then maybe I can rebuild my portfolio in Astro. Right now, it's in NextJS, which is really overkill for what it is.

Welp. The splitter I bought came, and I think our desktop's mic input is just broken.

Now I don't know what to do with the earphones I bought. I can't use them on my phone since it doesn't have an audio jack.

On the one hand, I'm not very happy with my job. On the other, I can finally afford stuff.

So this is what it's like to be an adult...

I decided to try out using PocketBase as a backend framework with Templ (GoLang) and HTMX. It seems really promising, but the template I'm using takes a long time to reload on change. And I don't really know enough about the Go libraries being used to set it all up myself.

I'll try to see if I can find better resources.

Also, when combined with AlpineJS, this would be called the PHAT stack, which is a huge selling point for using this.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

Other than the slow reloads, another pain point is that the tooling for Templ doesn't seem that great yet.

I could also use Javascript instead of Go, but I don't think PocketBase has strong Typescript support, so I'll be stuck using plain JS. Plus, if I've previously had problems with custom attributes in JSX.

I'm really missing using a laptop and having two screens (laptop + monitor). I don't know how I was able to survive for so long working with just one display.

Is it normal for CTOs to not know much about programming? Every time a language or a framework was brought up, ours kept asking what it was, even for the most common ones.

The biggest one for me was when we asked, "Javascript and Java are different, aren't they?"

We do web development. I don't think that's a question anyone should even be asking.

Why is it so hard to find a small bluetooth keyboard with dedicated home and end keys? Especially ones that come im pink.

dopey_kun,
@dopey_kun@sakurajima.moe avatar

And also dedicated function keys. Nothing beats being able to just hit f5, sit back, and see your code run.
