Hey @gruber here’s a word choice question for ya. In the iPad Air announcement they described interacting with something on screen as “a click”, and for iPad Pro they said “a tap”. Are they interchangeable or was this intentional?
@gruber yea, probably just a mistake, something held over from an earlier version of the script. as it happens I am a tap-to-click person. Pressing down on the trackpad to register a click feels counterintuitive to me when my brain knows that all those haptics are sensory tricks! ;)
MarsEdit from https://redsweater.com has been a long-time fan favorite app for blogging, but you may not know the work @danielpunkass puts into helping us use alt text for screen readers on our images. If you drag in an image with a descriptive title, MarsEdit automatically adds the title as the alt text. But if the title is worthless like IMG_2365, it does NOT add it as the alt text. How cool is that?
@podfeet@danielpunkass super cool! Now I’m curious if it could use some of Apple’s APIs to OCR text in an image and pull that into the metadata. Or even some kinda computer vision thing to generate a basic description based on the image contents 🤔
@robb what they’re basically saying is “we’d like to drastically increase the volume of support requests we get, because no one can find the information they need from us on search engines anymore”
HEY! What are some of your favorite gadgets you got this year? And I'm not talking about an iPhone 15 Pro or whatever... tell me the quirky stuff! Neat products you love and don't think many people know about. :D
@snazzyq I got a portable monitor for my Steam Deck, put an adhesive magnet on it to make it MagSafe compatible, and mounted it to a gooseneck stand with a ESR MagSafe mounting plate that I had lying around. Got some 180-degree USB-C adapters to keep the cables tidy and attached it to a rolling cart where I keep my keyboard, mouse and controller. Now I have a modern A/V cart that I can use when I’m sitting in my favourite chair! Lately I’ve been using it for YouTube and Dave the Diver.
I take a Apple's Continuity features for granted these days, so much so that I'm sitting here wondering why Safari on my Mac isn't auto-filling an SMS 2FA code - only to eventually realize, "Oh yea, it's because my phone is installing the 17.0.3 update.”
Reaching retirement age, and choosing to spend your new found free time driving the neighborhood to snitch on your neighbors to the HOA, because, I guess, "property values”, is a weird flex.
@danielpunkass I've tried gaming on my iPhone with the Razer Kishi controller. It's okay, but iOS is just not a very gaming-friendly platform. It gets mildly better every year, but still doesn't have that console-like simplicity you get with the Switch or Steam Deck. I yearn for a gaming frontend like Daijisho (an Android app focused on retro game emulation) on the iPhone, but that kind of app would never be allowed on the current App Store.
I was reading over some code I wrote a couple years ago and dang it was clean and clever and kinda awesome. I never used it for anything, though. Sigh.
