Coming this June from Cambridge University Press. My book examines agonistic epigram and epinikian poetry together, the first study of its kind in English, through their deployment of the metaphors of heralds and messages. @bookstodon @histodon

Rayguns & Rocketships just arrived. Looks like a beautiful book, and I can’t wait to dive in. @bookstodon

drpeterjmiller,

@glasspusher @janechen @academicchatter agreed. My supervisor said that no one knew more than a PhD student right before comps; and I remember a decanal candidate saying that PhD students needed the most support because they were doing the most innovative work. Now that I’m (ugh) a mid career person, I completely agree.

"The monstrous denizens of the intergalactic deep reveal themselves not through the light they emit, but by how they stir the space-time we share. When a gravitational wave moves through you, you are, for a moment, a different shape.” By me, in the Washington Post:

It occurred to me that with the launch of Threads, BlueSky has far more to worry about than the fediverse.

drpeterjmiller,

@mike @Diggler67 exactly. Why bother with Threads then?!

drpeterjmiller,

@jsadow @kmkurn @danaujoks @gpollara @koen @academicchatter this is still very useful to know!

drpeterjmiller,

@kinozhao @academicchatter as a classicist it’s impossible for me to answer 😀Seriously, though, I’ve used many 19th century commentators on classical texts still - often the earliest and best assessment of a word or comparisons, etc.

Looking for recommendations for inexpensive/indie games, preferably SF or Fantasy adventure or RPG. Old school or retro graphics and mechanics are fine! Thanks!

drpeterjmiller,

@NullNoMore thanks! and I didn’t know about Deku Deals either!
