It’s super punny. Aiba is your aibo (相棒) – partner – as well as your eyeball and an AI. Ay ay ay! :-)

Oh, so that’s how Genis was casting Fire Ball!

I was following it casually last year, but haven’t really kept up. These are some of the communities I made a note of:

Add a couple of JoJo-posing anime characters and this could be a scene out of Paradise Killer.

If you see any issues relating to ungodly load times please feel free to let us know!

Right now loading every page – except profiles – seems to take about 2~3 seconds with occasional spikes up to ~10 seconds. (Profiles are much slower to load – ~6 seconds typically and sometimes much longer.) I’m using the “old” (mlmym) interface mainly, but testing with the default interface seems to have similar performance with a lot of spinners on every action. It’s not unusable but it’s definitely noticeably slow.

Wishing you the best of luck in your investigation! Hopefully it turns out to be something quick and easy, but having been through the wringer debugging my own projects, I totally get it if it’s not.

Huh. I don’t think I got a notice for this reply. So, sorry I didn’t respond – I didn’t see it! (Just saw this randomly while checking your profile to see if there was a thread regarding the “next” interface.)

Haven’t checked again thoroughly yet today, but the timings I saw yesterday matched your averages pretty well and I definitely saw a reduction in lag spikes after your other reply. I also did a fair bit of poking around with my browser’s network inspector – and I found a potential issue.

It looks like mlmym (the “old” interface – which is the primary one I use) does not set Cache-Control on pages it serves, so you may be getting traffic to your backend for every logged out lurker and scraper hitting that interface instead of letting your CDN handle it. The header is set for images and such, but not the pages themselves. Lemmy’s default UI sets it (public, max-age=60 for logged out users, private for logged in users). The “next” interface seems like it sets it to private, no-cache, no-store, max-age=0, must-revalidate for logged out users, which is probably not ideal… I’m not sure yet what the other interfaces are doing since they’re JS heavy and I haven’t dug into them as much.

Image comments from kbin don’t make it through to lemmy correctly, so I copied your detail images below to help lemmy users see them:

Lots of characters in the background of this one – e.g. Rider, Saber, and Tohsaka from Fate/Stay Night, Astro Boy, etc. I’m not sure who the characters are on the front of the cart (where it says この before being cut off) or directly behind Konata’s bags though.

I thought it might be Mugi at first for the blonde haired character, but この and me misremembering the date K-On came out threw me off I guess. Looking at it again, I think you’re right – and early 2009 would be spot on for an ad in Japan.

I haven’t seen Evangelion but looking through a list of characters the blue haired character there could be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rei_Ayanami.jpg.

Thanks!

I didn't even post Hatsune Miku on 3/9

Huh. I probably should've picked up that 39 can be read as mi-ku in goroawase a long time ago, but I only realized the "thank you" interpretation and didn't realize it was also wordplay for Miku until just now.

I was literally sitting here wondering "WTF is the significance of 3/9?" for a half hour or so before it hit me. :p

It’s often in comments in the JS file(s) – sometimes with the licenses quoted entirely and sometimes in a form abbreviated by an automated code packer. Probably a lot of sites aren’t actually compliant with the terms of the licenses doing things that way, but IANAL.

kbin.social’s had major problems for a week or more at this point. Its federation’s backed up horribly. It improved a bit the last few days but seems to have crept back up to about 6 hours of delay right now (judging quickly from the times of non-local threads in /newest).

Most users (like me) have shifted over to alts until conditions improve and some magazines have migrated to other instances. I’m not familiar with the particulars of /m/mma though.

Help getting Ubuntu with KDE to sleep

My PC is running Ubuntu 22.04, with KDE Plasma 5.24. When I select Sleep from the Application Launcher, it always starts t go to sleep, but then it seems like a 50-50 chance that it will stay asleep. Many times, it wakes right back up again within 10 seconds. If I try to make it sleep two or more times, sometimes it will...

I don’t know about KDE in particular, but I’ve had problems with USB mice waking various Ubuntu systems when they’re not directly connected (i.e. there’s a hub or KVM in between it and the computer). The workaround I used for that was to remove the mouse input (e.g. by carefully pressing a physical button on the KVM) – which was good enough for me – but I think there is a programmatic way to block particular classes of input from waking the system if some device is waking your system inappropriately.

Doing a quick search turned up this: askubuntu.com/…/how-do-i-prevent-mouse-movement-f… – I can’t vouch for any of the specific techniques there though.

Worth noting that while I had a problem with the mouse specifically, other hardware could be causing your system to wake up.

It’s from season 1 episode 4 (負けました / We Lost) – about 12 minutes in.

Original context (minimal spoilers)Illya shows Miyu some magical girl anime. Miyu overanalyzes the hell out of it to Illya’s horror. These are some of Illya’s reaction faces to Miyu’s offscreen dialogue.
