knowing a phone model is not the same as seeing and ID card with all the Details, that makes a huge difference for the individual’s privacy…

most ISP operators I have seen don’t give a damn about your privacy, if you’re their friend, just ask… give them a phone number and they’ll give you all the details ( Face, Home Address… Etc )… In other countries like Iraq, you can buy that information for a very very low price…

removing the ID card from the equation provides huge privacy benefits for people from these sick fucks… If you’re worried about being found by the authorities… Avoid SIM cards alltogether

or what card you paid with etc.

Use cash…

the thing that makes me go … 🤦‍♂️… Is hearing some CS graduate or “Engineer” saying you don’t have privacy online, forget it…

Big tech really tried them to behave as their spokesmen

That’s not how you download ISOs… 😐…

👉 Qbittorent

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

Your Internet is flying… Oh my gosh… just noticed… I could only dream of seeing such speeds with my ISP…

anyways, even if it was a 500Mb ISO, using Qbit is much faster and you help others too…

You’ll be surprised how fast people change when you “insult” Islam

A lot of comments seem to disagree with you, so define Negativity? ( what do you consider to be negative behavior )

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

Good for you, it makes one attention span short as a little kid, … I hate it when my friends get their phone out while we’re outside and start doom scrolling ( switching ) shorts on YT/Tiktok… whatever…

At first I was patient about it, but now as soon as they switch to the second short I tell them to hide their phones, it’s so @#&@% rude…😤

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

So what’s the story behind this ? They’re a cult ? 👀

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

They WILL use locational data against you if your phone is on, Even if it’s off

Based on what I know, this can be achieved in two ways:

  1. SIM card: it records your location all the time, so they can get that from your phone company
  2. request it from Google or Apple ( that’s why you should degoogle your phone )

If you remove the SIM card and don’t connect to any hotspot ( obviously ), then your phone is just a camera, but the issue is that you’ll want to broadcast live, so you’ll need an Internet connection… So

While SIM cards have historically served as a primary means of identifying and tracking mobile devices, advancements in GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technologies have expanded the horizons of phone tracking beyond the constraints of SIM card dependency.

I mean that’s what I tried to say, SIM cards are the biggest offender when it comes to phone tracking, since they’re linked to your ID card, it’s such an easy method of tracking, unfortunately the article doesn’t go in depth ( as it claims ) on how to leverage GPS tracking for example, which brings me to my second question

given the resources that a state can bring to bear.

SIM card is the primary method used, it’s so easy and available, the government will for sure take advantage of such tracking capability, but since the article doesn’t give any example of how can GPS tracking can be achieved, like we know that the SIM card pings cell towers all the time, and it transmits unique IDs, and you buy it with an ID, you get the picture… in the case of other tracking methods, it’s seems ( to me at least ), that the attacker ( the government in this case, not necessarily the US government ), has to invest in extra resources to leverage such tracking capabilities that use obscure methods, how much that’s question? they must be really motivated

So you’re saying I might become a God…?! 👀

what can I say, we’re staying in the loop… 😉

Twitter alternative Post News is shutting down (www.theverge.com)

Post News, a Twitter alternative that emerged in the wake of Elon Musk’s takeover, is shutting down. Noam Bardin, the platform’s founder and former CEO of Waze, writes that Post News “is not growing fast enough to become a real business or a significant platform.”...

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

Exactly… 🤣… Been looking for Social media alternatives for years and never heard of this one before…

Tab Stash because it organizes Tabs in a tree style side menu, it’s awesome

@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

If you really want to run Linux : Distro hop

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah, that’s what I i did, first tried Nobara, I liked it but encountered some issues, tried to fix them but I realized I spent too much time and there’s no clear fix, so I hoped on Fedora and everything works nicely, exept for the Multimedia drivers which I’m still trying to fix…

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

It’s the stupid US patent law, and they don’t wanna deal with any “legal” issues, showing you how to install those drivers is how far they can go… But this is Exactly why these drivers are broken, they’re not well integrated and not tested by Fedora devs…

That’s why Distros like Ultramarine promise you a working Fedora experience OOTB, because they’re not US based and such laws don’t apply to their software…

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

Oh, Thank you very much multimedia playback behaves weirdly on my machine, I’ll try these fixes and let you know

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

find the storage module in the phone, hook it to a PC and extract its data

I thought this would be one of the potential solutions, for it because the screen is just gone, and they’re scarce… But like you said they have to be really good

I hope it’s not encrypted

It runs a very outdated android, I’m not sure about the state of encryption in such devices 🤷‍♂️

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

Can you see what’s on the screen or is the screen display broken along with the digitizer?

No the screen is broken like totally gone, it glitches and it’s 95% shattered, it only lights on and the phone doesn’t even vibrat to indicate “something”

It’s been a long time since I’ve used USB OTG

Oh, so… I guess that’s why… yeah… Like I said, Android will ask you : what you wanna do ? And you have to select ( transfer files ) otherwise it won’t give you access to it’s local storage…

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

The screen is completely shattered and glitching, it won’t work unfortunately…

electro1,
@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

So yes, just hook it up to a laptop and use the MTP connection?

File explorer detects an empty drive, and asks me to insert a drive… Screen interaction is required with this one I guess

@electro1@infosec.pub avatar

For Nazi I wouldn’t know

Gab that’s for sure… ¯_/(ツ)_/¯
