Is there a non-systemd distro with a preconfigured i3 desktop?

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@hydrogen I like Artix but ever since they started using their own repo I stopped using it, the software selection is just too limited?

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@coffeewasmyidea systemd is a dependency for so many packages that this approach would cause more issues. I would rather install mxlinux and tweak it from there

Showing off...my browsers are heavily tweaked and minimalist and I do lots of unknown stuff, IOW do not use popular things too much

It's mine, right? :)

@unixbhaskar I love vimb, but webkit browser crashes a lot. I managed to get Sealion and Palemooj behaving like vimb in a way with Dorando Keyconfig

Using nightly from their deb repo instead of the default firefox-esr in ! It seems very nice.

@someodd Firefox Nightly is awesome

I am not too familiar with the Ubuntu upgrade process, so I would appreciate some advice.

I want to install Ubuntu Sway, but it's based on Ubuntu 23.10. What will the next dist-upgrade be? 24.04? And how reliable is that process? My gut tells me never to upgrade an LTS, rather reinstall?

Thoughts?

Thank You

@adrinux ah yes, I do customise the configs quite a bit, so this is a no go then haha

@sirber noooo 😅

fatboy,

@sirber I guess with Wayland it’s better to use a rolling distro

Earlier I said I saw little evidence that human beings will take the necessary steps to ensure the future of the species. However, of course, I would love a good rebuttal to that notion.

@tmstreet as long as there is money to be made, no.

What the actual fuck? Horrifying. I need to keep researching to validate this is true.

I'm gonna try on my old Lenovo T430 on an old 128 GB SSD. If it's nice, I'll buy a new genuine battery for it. OEM batteries are 💩

Interesting day...

I had a Debian 12 install booting in UEFI mode on my main laptop.
Thought I would test Ubuntu Sway on a Live USB, I booted into the Live USB in uefi mode and tested Ubuntu Sway only to find out my UEFI boot partition is broken after restart: "no bootable device found".

Just fucking lovely

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@adrinux I don't think it was something I did. I think it had something to do with how the distro was configured and when it booted? Maybe that firmware updater or os prober of Ubuntu?

fatboy,
@fatboy@fosstodon.org avatar

@fatboy I managed to fix my install. I used the Boot Repair Tool in MXLinux and it worked! Man, I just love mxlinux :mxlinux: :BlobhajHeart:
