@Uni_Stuttgart please stop blocking UDP traffic in your eduroam, it’s required for QUIC and WebRTC and generally makes your network a pain to use with anything except old-style web browsing.

filmroellchen,
@filmroellchen@chaos.social avatar

@engler i know that you can just tunnel UDP through TCP and other shenanigans, but the point is that i don’t want to be running a vpn every time i’m trying to use some fucking voice chat.

and try to teach social studies students how to do this. they won’t. we need a solution that allows everyone to use quic based services, like (here) end-to-end encrypted chat

how about a "silly wifi SSIDs" thread? post your silly wifi SSIDs. Doesn't have to be existing ones, just post funny names.

I usually jokingly name my networks after fastfood places, like burgerking or pizzahut or mcdonalds.

@fristi I once saw "IstDaDieKrosseKrabbe" with the password being "NeinHierIstPatrick" which is the German version of the "is this the krusty crab? - no, this is Patrick!" Spongebob reference

so in case anyone is waiting for the Ultimate SPC700 Talk slides on my GitHub: I found a few pieces of wrong information and will be updating the slides in the coming days and then preparing the GitHub upload. Until then I want to have a thread here with all the corrections I need to make.

  1. The S-SMP runs at 1.024 MHz, not 2.048 MHz. The claim about equivalent speed to 6502 still stands, but this is pretty embarassing, even though it is confusing. I think this is how it works:
  • DAC runs at ~24MHz, => the DSP master clock that divides into others
  • DSP runs at ~3MHz, accessing 1 hardware register each cycle and RAM on two of the cycles
  • S-SMP has the third RAM access, and we base instr cycles on this ~1MHz. However it seems to have an internal ~2MHz clock (see fullsnes)

  1. While uploading data via the boot ROM routine, you CANNOT send blocks larger than 256 bytes. I oversimplified the upload protocol too much and my description is severely wrong. Here's how it actually goes:
  • After $CC ack in port 0, send the data byte in port 1 and a start index of 0 in port 1.
  • The index needs to be incrementing, but once it reaches 0 again, that signals the start of the next transfer.
  • Same goes for the final jump: ports 0 and 1 must be 0
filmroellchen,
@filmroellchen@chaos.social avatar

You could have just seen that by looking at the code after the Block label in the boot ROM:

Block:
mov y, $F4 ; load data index into Y
bne Block ; wait while Y != 0

... but that code was on screen for half a second, I blame noone but myself.

I should have also mentioned that the boot ROM has some pretty strange code in it. It's very possible to improve it while keeping to the 64 bytes.
