If Europe Federalizes, what happens with the monarchs? As much as I am a republican, I know the Dutch and Scandies like their monarchs, so it doesn't feel right to force republicanism on them.
Republics and kingdoms existing within the same country just sounds weird. Is there anything like that?
@archliberal@Minnewegian oh right the HRE is a good example, where the component states were feudal, clerical, and republican. Though oftentimes the HRE was more similar to a Supra-national organization (like the EU) than a state itself.
Yeah I was really tempted to get the Beyerdynamics. And the AKG K612. And the ATH-R70x. And the Hifiman Sundara/Edition XS (good sales rn). And some Grados. It’s strange how affordable all these classic headphones are as an adult - I used to lust after them as a teenager.
But I’m not going to let myself buy more headphones until I prove that I’ll actually use them. I have too many (cheaper) headphones sitting in drawers already.
Can I charge a 36V battery from a 52V battery with a DC-DC converter? I don't need more than the 100W that goes in the charge port (I probably need to limit it to that?) Currently I'm using an inverter pack and the AC charger as a range extender but I have a couple 52V packs that would be more energy in the same weight, don't want more 36V packs and this setup is temporary on this bike, but would get used a few times per year.
This is a question with fractal complexity. However, assuming that the 36V battery has built in electronics to handle the charging (I.e. protecting the battery from overcharge/discharge, adjusting charge current as the battery becomes more charged) and you convert the 52V battery to be within the range which the 36V battery(‘s charger) can accept: yes that should be okay.
It’s a good sign if the 36V battery came with a generic AC-DC power brick, try to match that voltage.
Disclaimer: I’m not specifically knowledgeable about ebikes.
Yeah if you’re feeling appropriately cautious put a fuse on the output which matches the rating of the stock ac/dc (and optionally a fuse on the input which matches the step down’s rating). An additional bit of caution would be to monitor the voltage out of the brick and make sure it stays constant throughout the charge cycle.
Note it’s common for batteries (chargers) to be unable to charge and discharge simultaneously.
Nix is a weird build system and package manager but it’s the last one you’ll ever need to learn. No more apt, yum, pip, conda, setuptools, npm, pnpm, conda, cmake.
NixOS takes that and uses it for the whole system. Define the entire state of your system, from the kernel to the users and programs and their configuration, in a single config file. You don’t need to learn the config file format for sudo, or mariadb, or Postgres, or where to put them or how to apply them.
…Just add a line in your configuration.nix. Nvidia driver update gives you a black screen? Just choose the previous version of your configuration in the bootloader. Need to patch your kernel to fix your touchpad driver? You don’t need to learn how to build and install the kernel and add it to your bootloader, just add a line to your config which says “use this patch for the kernel”.
Millimeters of mercury is one of the most ridiculous units. It's not SI or US customary, and it's the same order of magnitude as a hectopascal. Just use hectopascals instead please.
