flamingo_pinyata,

Like why is it so hard for them? The underlying settings database doesn’t have to change, only the UI. Unless it’s all so messed up nobody dares touch it.

flamingo_pinyata,

Exhaust and noise are still a problem. It won’t do much on a climate level, but even if we manage to reduce car usage having the remaining cars be electric is useful. Both noise pollution and particulate pollution have negative effects on human health.

Maybe it’s just my bubble but most climate activists I see are primarily pushing for renewable electricity generation, and consumption reduction across the board in all aspects of life. They are usually also against cars generally but it’s a secondary subject.

flamingo_pinyata,

This seems like a big change only because YouTube/content creators are such a new phenomenon. Makes sense to change tracks after doing the same thing for a while. Or retire if you get filthy rich. It’s a natural cycle, only this time in a new environment.

Tom Scott has been doing the same thing for 10 years. Hell I can barely do the same job for 2 years without getting bored out of my mind.

flamingo_pinyata,

Experienced humans know all the variables - roast levels, grind size, water temperature, slight differences in timing depending on exact coffee in question… And more importantly they can apply them intuitively without mentally processing each variable separately.

Machines could do all that but such a machine would need good programming (expensive) and a lot of sensors (expensive).

flamingo_pinyata, (edited )

We already have fully automatic coffee machines - and they make shit coffee. Adding a robotic arm will not help because it’s not about mechanical control it’s about getting the process right and consistently repeatable. And that can be done without AI if anyone wanted to invest enough money.

flamingo_pinyata,

They could have renewed it just for the irony. Even if it means giving some money to the Taliban.

flamingo_pinyata,

There’s the whole “getting wasted on a Greek island”. Or on the Spanish coast.

But it’s more of an equivalent of going to Cancun for Americans.

flamingo_pinyata,

And the so called “omnipotent” god couldn’t have created a universe with rules which eventually led to evolution of humans.
No, he had to directly create humans as they are now, because reasons…

flamingo_pinyata,

We’re not supposed to victim-blame, but imo this applies only if the person was lured under false pretenses, or forced somehow.

It’s Kanye West. Everyone knows who and what Kanye is. Even if you don’t it’s a 5 second google search to find out.

flamingo_pinyata,

Do you remember the name of the show?

flamingo_pinyata,

Iconic Manhattan skyscrapers - Empire State Building for sure. Regardless of societal changes it will become a protected cultural heritage.

Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest - it’s just too big. Nobody likes it but but demolishing would be too expensive. I expect this situation to continue forever.

Eiffel Tower - another iconic landmark. And very simple to keep maintained as long as you have enough steel. If it gets destroyed for whatever reason, Parisians will rebuild it.

Sea reclamation structures in the Netherlands - Especially those built during 20th century. Even if active mechanisms fall out of use, it will remain around as a ruin of ancient civilization for a long time

Mountain bikes that are considered equivalents to Jeeps and Land Cruisers?

This might be the wrong community to ask this but I’ll give it my shot. I already own a very good Trek bike but it’s an urban commuter. I want something that handle dirt and country roads just as good as a Jeep or Land Cruiser. I know mountain bikes are best suited for off-road scenarios but I’ve only ever used urban bikes...

flamingo_pinyata,

Unlike the automotive industry where only 2-3 manufacturers make any kind of decent terrain capable vehicle, in MTB world there are a lot of brands. But also unlike automotive brands very few have global distribution.

Check what is available locally, and if possible try one. For mountain bikes getting the correct frame size is way more important than for city bikes. If it’s your first MTB don’t obsess too much about getting the perfect one right away - in a year you will get the upgrade itch anyway.

flamingo_pinyata,

It’s not paranoia if they are really after you

flamingo_pinyata,

On a serious note - it’s true, it’s becoming clear human lifespan is too short and this information is subconsciously filtering to children. It will become worse.

flamingo_pinyata,

It could be not on purpose.

Did they even build their system with the idea that copyright can expire? This is the first major video work to expire.

In a lot of companies this would be the first feature to be given low priority and sent to the bottom of the backlog. To be done “when we have the time”

flamingo_pinyata,

It’s memes and shitposting about anything military related. Special focus on:

  • events in ongoing wars
  • sexualizing airplanes
flamingo_pinyata,

So the other 95% is that humans will cause humans to go extinct.
Checks out.

flamingo_pinyata,

There’s a suspicious lack of “hot and sunny Christmas” imagery in the media.
Australians and South Americans - where are all the sunny Christmas on the beach movies ??

flamingo_pinyata,

<sad St. Peter noises>

flamingo_pinyata,

Jesus also spent some time in jail.

If you use 72% of a cross is it still a crucifiction? That’s like both arms and one foot nailed.

flamingo_pinyata,

Finally a good criticism of LLMs. Most of what you can read is knee jerk “it will never replace humans in x job”. But many jobs require writing informative text. It will replace humans at that. Even decision making in many cases.

But it doesn’t feel. There is no original creativity without feeling, without suffering. Breaking the bonds of what came before. It can imitate perfectly but that’s not creativity.

It will take a big jump in technology for AIs to feel. And try to break the limitations of their own existence. And that’s the real end of humanity.
