"Netflix to End Support for 2nd and 3rd Generation Apple TV"

[UPDATE: turns out we’re talking about super old hardware, pre-tvOS, so this is to be expected?]

@davemark well, to be honest we’re talking about 12/14 years old Apple TVs which don’t even use tvOS and don’t have the App Store, and Netflix was a pre installed app.

@davemark sorry, didn’t see the edit 😅

But, I agree. Most people when one says 2nd and 3rd gen Apple TV think about Apple TV HD (ie, the ones with tvOS).

Technically correct message, easily misunderstood.

The price difference to go from an 83 inch OLED to an 88 inch is just bonkers

fmarini,
@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@christianselig 4K vs 8K, but I’m sure you already know 😁

(Price for the 88 8K is still bonkers, though)

Honest question: I measure gases as a career, and I’m always fixing leaks in my instruments*. How do people who push as a home heating solution propose to avoid catastrophic leaks?

*I use Swagelok fittings, the same ones used on airplanes and in industrial settings.

fmarini,
@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@uoou @davidho absolutely. Methane (which composes most of natural gas) is a much bigger molecule than H2 (hydrogen). As such, it cannot escape so easily from seals like hydrogen do.
I used to work with gases and high pressure in my previous R&D job, and the worst thing was having to deal with helium because it has a tendency to always escape from pipes/tanks whenever you have a connection/seal. Hydrogen is similar to helium in that regard.

Due to some frustration flight shenanigans I ended up with most of the today alone in Milan and an evening tonight alone in Rome

Any recommendations on what to do or where to eat? I already saw the Duomo yesterday

@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@charliemchapman Damn, I have a busy day today, otherwise I would’ve shown you around.
Anyway, unfortunately not the best day weather-wise, but here are some ideas (gonna provide addresses later):

  • take a stroll in an around the Castello Sforzesco, Sempione park, and Arco della Pace. From there you can go to Chinatown and Via Paolo Sarpi, if you feel like it
  • go to Basilica of San Lorenzo, then walk along Corso di Porta Ticinese, reach the Darsena, and then stroll along the Naviglio Grande
fmarini,
@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@charliemchapman if you go the first route, you can have something to eat in via Sarpi, there are quite a number of street food places there, offering anything from dumplings to fried skewers to baos. I suggest trying the mo at Mo Sarpi. There are some Italian places too, if you want.
Otherwise, from the Castello you can go to via Mercato and Corso Garibaldi, there are a lot of places there to eat, La Prosciutteria being a nice one for a tagliere with a glass of wine.

fmarini,
@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@charliemchapman For the second route, along Corso di Porta Ticinese stop by the Basilica of Sant’Eustorgio, then beside the Darsena there is a covered market with some places to eat. Otherwise along the Naviglio Grande you can find plenty of different places ranging from another La Prosciutteria to greek food, to whatever you might like. On the other side of the Naviglio there is a really good but somewhat expensive restaurant, El Brelin.

fmarini,
@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@charliemchapman For the first route, begin from Piazza Cairoli (there is an underground stop there, if you need it), and go straight toward the Castello Sforzesco. Apart from the museums in there, everything else is free and you can walk inside and around the castle. If you exit the castle on the other side to Piazza Cairoli, you’ll find yourself in the Sempione park, go through it, and you’ll reach the Arco della Pace.

@charliemchapman good! Happy you enjoyed Castello Sforzesco and the time here ☺️👍🏻

Did you know Apple removes WWDC talks over time from the Developer app? I was very surprised how many removed talks still have their video streams hosted by Apple!

Here's an overview of the availability of all WWDC talks ever. We figured this out while building WWDC Index, an overview of every WWDC talk ever held: https://nonstrict.eu/wwdcindex

fmarini,
@fmarini@mastodon.social avatar

@mathijskadijk I wonder if Apple would come after anyone hosting those offline ones for everyone else to access… not sure I’m willing to find out firsthand, though 😅

Anyway, thanks a lot for the work you’re doing with the Index! 👏🏻☺️👍🏻
