galaxi,

Really leveling up the content in this community. Looks sick!!

galaxi,

Not entirely surprising. If you think about it, that’s only .13% of the time since it came out. Also, it’s Sims, I don’t blame her lol.

galaxi,

It’d be cool to have a companion just like chappie :)

galaxi,

Most people referring to whom? It’s great if you’ve got the self discipline to never eat out or do absolutely any non-essential spending, but I’m really skeptical of your claim for “most people.” At least in the US lots of people have huge amounts of consumer debt and areas they could cut back on. This is just a fun challenge from YNAB to try to get the most of your budget, it’s not really that different from doing a NYE challenge to get a bit ahead on your goals.

galaxi,

It’s an official challenge that’s part of the YNAB blog. I was assuming that most of us from this community were from all different walks of life that may have challenged ourselves to cut back more than usual at some point, given that we all budget. Sorry to hear it isn’t helpful for you personally.

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone?

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

executive dysfunction vs depression

i’m pushing 40 and have only recently been given an informal diagnosis (seeking out a formal diagnosis currently) from my therapist of ADHD, so it’s all new to me and changing the way i look at my behaviors and patterns. i’ve been thinking about this distinction between executive dysfunction and depression quite a bit...

galaxi,

It could be depression. It also sounds like the very common experience in ADHD I’ve heard of where your brain just doesn’t have enough dopamine to do anything. So you might try to get yourself to do stuff, but you literally can’t get yourself to do what you’d like (even though you feel like you should be able to). You might even just stare at a wall and get mad at yourself for not moving. Maybe this video might have some tips?

But I mean, it’s also possible to have comorbid depression with ADHD. There are a lot of places they can overlap (low motivation, low energy). Outside of medication, you might just need to find ways that work for you and help you to feel motivated or even just happy and accepting of where you’re at. It’s okay to have off days too, I hope you know. People with ADHD have a lot of shame so it’s important to make sure that you aren’t struggling with that on top of the lack of motivation. To learn to be easier on yourself. And to learn about ways that the rest of society may have not properly taught you how to handle the unique struggles you deal with (so you can stop pressuring yourself to accomplish or act to neurotypical standards).

galaxi,

Would you mind sharing what you shot this with? I love it! It’s so unique :D

galaxi,

Reminds me of still using spybot search & destroy :p

galaxi,

I’m sorry you’ve been feeling depressed. I know how that can make it difficult to start getting into other things. I have a couple suggestions. One is to just let yourself get bored enough to wander around the internet and find cool things. If you find something you want to try like an art tutorial, don’t pressure yourself or anything, just give it a go! I made a lot of art in high school using stuff like photoshop or free programs and it eventually got me into graphic design. I sometimes wish I still had the time to mess around with stuff like that! And another one, if you’re into tech and want to try new hobbies, you might be able to volunteer at the local makerspace which would give you a membership there. I used to not have a lot of hobbies, but I got into 3d printing. It’s so fun to make stuff without needing talent. If you can’t afford a hobby like that, a makerspace would let you try out stuff like that and meet other people with creative hobbies like coding, 3d printing, and making robots. :)

galaxi,

I didn’t find this as depressing as the others! I liked remembering how much I’ve gotten to see the world change so far :)

galaxi,

You should look into a dual gear extruder. They’re a slight upgrade from this kind and do a lot better without wearing out. If you want a bigger upgrade though, look into a BMG clone. It’s great for direct drive if you decide that you want to do that at some point. It has a 3:1 gear ratio so you’d need to adjust e-steps, but it’s really efficient.

galaxi,

I also recommend the trianglelab BMG extruder from aliexpress. They’re the king of clones. Otherwise, just go for anything with a good amount of reviews on amazon. They aren’t too expensive. Most of us who’ve been printing long enough have a drawer full of extruder parts :p

Direct drive not only lets you print with flexible filament and more precision like the others mentioned - but I also prefer it to bowden because over time, the tubing will get melted and you’ll need to snip off the end. With direct drive, it’s usually only an inch of tube that you can just replace. With bowden, you can end up either decreasing your hotend’s reach (tube gets too short) or have to buy and install a whole new length. Plus, direct drive means faster reload time, less things going wrong. You may just need to get a light stepper motor or compensate other ways with direct drive, as the main downside is the potential for ringing due to a heavier hotend. I don’t notice it much, but that would be the trade off.

galaxi,

It’s so clear… it’s like if a quartz crystal formation was a PC :o

Are any of your friends on the fediverse too? If not, have you tried to get them to join?

I’ve been telling a lot of people about it, but everyone’s a skeptic. I’ve heard a lot of people saying that they’re just going to wait to see which Reddit clone comes out on top before switching. Most of them haven’t heard of the other parts of the fediverse like mastodon. I’d like to leave fb/instagram, but like...

galaxi,

Heh, I had an older coworker ask everyone today if anyone’s joined Threads. Part of what got me thinking about all of this.

galaxi,

I think this is my favorite post on this community so far :)

galaxi,

That’s so cool! Thank you so much for sharing!

galaxi,

This was written by Cory Doctorow, science fiction novelist, tech activist, and original coiner of the phrase “enshittification of the internet.” I’m guessing this one was a longer and wordier piece because it’s meant to be a commentary, not your typical article or editor’s note.
