Went to check out #BlueSky out of curiosity: it looks like Twitter and made me realize how much better #mastodon is: edit button, content filters, hashtags, content warnings... there's just so much more functionality in this open world.
@thor The first time I encountered a roudabout I was 18 years old and didn't have a fucking clue what I was supposed to do. I eventually just kind of figured it out on my own through observation. It was at Fort Lewis, WA.
@darth I've been using an RX 480 on Debian for several years now and have never had any problems whatsoever related to the graphics card. I've had other issues related to a game just not working on Linux, but nothing that was the fault of the GPU or its firmware, that I can recall anyway.
@neil I don't use it daily, Signal is my daily driver, but I have set up conversations for myself, my wife and kids as a backup in the event Signal has an outage.
It still blows my mind that my #SteamDeck can play games like Dirt 5 and Cyberpunk 2077 in docked mode at 1440p.
Of course this uses AMD FSR, but it's still a wonderful technological achievement, and the more I use it this way, the less I miss my power-hungry, hot tower PC.
@killyourfm Same. I can play Halo MCC at 1080p with a locked 60 and it's just great. It only draws 25 or so watts from the wall to do it too, while my tower draws over 400.
First impression of my #Pinebuds Pro. Fine for listening to music, unacceptable for the #SteamDeck. There is a noticeable amount of delay in the audio. I'm not sure if it's the codec it uses or what, but sometimes there's a noticeably long delay between actions on screen and audio in my ears.
@blake My 3.5 works great, and using my wireless Corsair headset with its dongle (docked) also works great. I could see it being a Bluetooth issue though, as I think they're doing something odd with the WiFi and audio. I game on Linux on my desktop and have no issues, but on my deck I was getting crackling and stuttering audio until I turned on developer options and disabled WiFi power management, so it's definitely possible Valve is doing something different with Arch than I am with Debian.
Imagine if schools were fitted with proper ventilation and filtration which, by itself, can reduce infection by 85%. Since covid and other airborne diseases primarily spread from schools (and care settings, but not masking there is just clear insanity) we might even consistently get the R value under 1
It's such low hanging fruit. It's not even that expensive and governments already have the kind of control over schools to do this. Instead we're just doing nothing, for reasons
Hell it's so easy to sell too. Don't wanna remind people about covid? Don't mention it! Just say that CO2 buildup makes it harder for people to think analytically and process information, and that if students have better air and get things like colds and flu less often their academic performance will be better!
But no, better to just do nothing when there's low hanging fruit right fucking there
@eniko I work for our local district and there has been a booger on the wall of the staff bathroom for several years now. I've been watching it to see how long it takes the janitors to clean it. I know I could just wipe it off myself, but as a bus driver/mechanic I'm only in there occasionally. Plus the school district seems to want to intentionally understaff departments to save money. For example, we only have one school nurse who round robins between the various schools throughout the week.
@thelinuxEXP@darth Keep something chromium based handy for when you need to do a video call. I've had intermittent issues with conference calls because of Firefox's lack of support for certain aspects of WebRTC.
I love it. There’s a poll ongoing about whether folks would ban a Meta (Instagram/Facebook) instance and people are like “well, I’d give them the benefit of the doubt.”
I really have no words.
Is it learned helplessness? Stockholm Syndrome? Masochism? Something else?
@aral What would that even look like? Like, would it just be Meta employees posting about Facebook? Like, I don't get it. Makes about as much sense as Facebook having a Twitter account (which they do).
