And if you add to that the marriage between Calvinism and capitalism in countries like the US and Switzerland, it becomes even more punitive (the deep underlying idea, even if most people don't think it consciously, being that if you don't fit the mold required by the work ethic, you are broken, and God is punishing you and you deserve it).

I am shocked that the practical side of autism support here in Switzerland seems to consist almost solely of getting people into a daily routine that could support working a job, even if it hurts or kills them.

It's incredibly damaging.

Question for folks:

Do you find that as you get more burned out or overwhelmed, it's harder to keep explanations succinct and to-the-point?

I am finding my writing becoming really... suboptimal as I am under increasingly awful amounts of stress, and I have to edit a lot more than I once had to just to make myself understood.

@I_Like_Books Do you find that losing words in your first language happens more often when you have to frequently use a second one?

I'm finding that on days I have to have long, stressful conversations in German, I am much less capable in English afterwards and eventually just retreat to my bedroom.

I have destroyed so many glass bottles over these last couple of months.

Does anyone have any recommendations for containers that can hold 1 L of liquid, are easy to clean and can withstand boiling water being poured into them without cracking?

But thermos flasks do work!

@schratze Stupid question, but do you put hot (not-boiling) water into them first to warm them up so they expand in stages? I do that with our (ceramic, glazed) teapot.

When we're on vacation and sharing a room, my teenager still does it and... yup. melting heart, even if she's a grumpy teen :)

Since it’s let’s discuss this:

is not another social media trend. You don’t have ADHD just because you relate to a bunch of IG and TikTok posts.

Please don’t self-diagnose. There are way too many social media accounts posing as experts, spreading misinformation about mental health problems, and overgeneralizing stereotypes.

I urge folks to take the time to learn about this condition and other mental health disorders, get evaluated, and seek support.

My brain's wiring impacts my mental health, sure. Especially in concert with societal expectations.

But I'm not mentally ill because I have ADHD. And self-diagnosis was key to getting an actual diagnosis, because as an adult, no one else is going to speak up for me. I don't have a teacher to notice I am daydreaming all the time or fidgeting in class, and even if I DID, I managed to get through years of education without a teacher or doctor deciding it was an issue, to my huge detriment.

Still caught in the impressions of yesterday's semi-final, though. I must say, I'm quite confused by several media reports that I've seen today - stuff like "Sweden and Finland being the favourites" (seriously? I mean... Sweden?) or the Swiss press claiming that it was not wonder that Remo Forrer had reached the finals, "given the competition". Quite a flame, and I would say not correct. Seems the local journalists in Basel are not very good with music. ;)

    It's a little flattering with recruiters salivate over your CV when you absolutely aren't looking for a new job.

    It's INCREDIBLY flattering when former colleagues ask if you're looking for something when you're not looking for a new job <3

    (I'm not looking for a new job. But it's nice to know people who've worked with you think of you later and think, "hey, what about her?" and not "never again!" ;)

    To be fair, when I WAS looking for a job, most of those recruiters being interested were basically just throwing crap at walls to see what stuck. I wasted a lot of time.

    Glossy cover versus matte. I hate the feel of the matte and my spouse loves it. I’m not sure which is better for the majority of us. Matte is what’s up on Amazon for now, but the color saturation of the glossy one is so appealing.
