I went to a top rated engineering school in the US and found the CS program easy. It helped that I enjoyed most of my classes, and that had been teaching myself for years before I got there. I had plenty of free time to spend with friends or whatever else.
While I’ve certainly had jobs that demanded long hours, I’ve had others that are more reasonable, and with good pay. It’s more possible now to find a good paying job with good work/life balance than when I started working over 20 years ago.
Don’t let the negative people scare you away from school or the industry. Ultimately your experience will be your own. If you find that the path you’re on isn’t working for you, just do something else!
Thank you everyone for taking time to help out. While looking for keyboards, I’ve found a great deal on a new Keychron C3 Pro at Amazon for around $30. It’s a wired keyboard, but it’s got hot swappable brown switches and I figured there’s no way I’d find something better to dip my toes in this hobby....
Keychron makes keyboards in a variety of sizes, and most you can configure with different types of switches. They’re priced well, too. I’d start there.
I was under the impression the company was moving to Unreal for future games. While it’s nice to do this for the community, it seems like there isn’t much of a future for these tools.
Automatic garbage collection in C is possible with libraries like libgc, but with allocppx.pl, you can just preprocess your file into generating heaps, and these heaps can be used for memory allocation. The type of GC is used, mark and sweep + reference counting. Every memory allocation MAY have a trace, and this trace can be...
I was talking to my manager the other day, discussing the languages we are using at $dayjob. He kind of offhandedly said that he thinks TypeScript is a temporary fad and soon everything will go back to using JavaScript. He doesn’t like that it’s made by Microsoft either....
This just blew my mind. I had always assumed Java was older. I started writing hobby projects in Java in the 90s. I don’t think I heard about Python until the early 2000s.
I find it difficult to believe that breaking down steel to be 3d printed into large structures for a bridge is faster or more energy efficient than casting the parts instead.
I was going to say replaying but I feel like that limits the question to games like Prey or Fallout New Vegas that have endings and games like The Sims 2 or Cities Skylines where you can play indefinitely end up excluded....
I played Tetris for the first time on my friend’s Gameboy back in the 90’s. I didn’t get addicted at the time and I’m still not, but I do play Tetris 99 on my switch occasionally.
Overall, it’s an amazing game. It can be learned in minutes but takes years to master.

I just picked up Again the Storm a few days ago and have been enjoying that. I like that the settlement building isn’t drawn out like other strategy games, and I don’t really feel bad about it when I lose since I can still earn perks and bonuses that persist throughout the campaign.
GOTY for me is definitely Balder’s Gate 3. Enjoyed it start to finish, and there was enough content that my second playthrough didn’t feel like a rehash of the first.

I wouldn’t consider the Tesla model Y a high end premium vehicle. It was the best selling vehicle in the world earlier this year, in spite of the higher price than gas-powered competitors:
