Just wanted to chime in and say that I am super happy with my Pixel 7 so far. Easily one of the best phones out there, especially considering the price.
To clarify here, I don’t feel like I’m significantly smarter than most people, but I feel like people have a hard time doing any sort of thinking about stuff. Especially when it comes to verifying “facts.”
In my experience, I have found the least intelligent people to also be the most vocal, which makes it look like they are overrepresented in the population.
With Lemmy 0.19 there are new scaled and controversial sort options, but I don’t see them in the app. Is there an update coming soon to support these?...
Looking to start keeping some daily notes. I don’t mind paying for the app, as long as it’s one time and not subscription. Bonus points it it on f-Droid.
It’s probably worth noting that this has a lot to do with VCs pumping in a seemingly unlimited amount of funding for services that aren’t profitable yet but has potential to be later. Hence why Twitter is still a thing despite running at a loss for almost its entire lifetime.
Nothing is stopping the user from accessing lemmy.world communities from the alternative instance they chose (unless it has defederated). It’s just that in this case lemmy.world did not want to be responsible for the user’s content.
Abusing admins is nothing new and with reddit you have absolutely 0 recourse besides making a new account at the mercy of the very same admins. On Lemmy at least you can select another instance and still access the same content.
On Android you have to explicitly allow installs from unknown sources and it warns you that it could make it possible to install malware. This has always been enough of a deterrent on Android and I don’t understand why the same can’t be true for iOS.
Most of the problems in the current internet landscape is caused by the cost of centralized servers. What problems are stopping us from running the fediverse on a peer to peer torrent based network? I would assume latency, but couldn’t that be solved by larger pre caching in clients? Of course interaction and authentication...
Don’t see how this is much different to today’s way of doing things where pretty much everyone is a freeloader to the centralized server. The major benefit is that it doesn’t have to be just one server anymore.
Found this very interesting article about how Android’s Doze Mode really works and how you can tweak the settings. For example how you can make doze mode ignore the motion sensor.
Pay walled? There was a popup asking me to log in, but I just closed it and was still able to read the full article. My apologies if that was some kind of trial mode.
Sure, this is very light usage - just 5 hours SoT over more than 2 days of usage - but I couldn’t get this phone to even make it to two days with similar usage on Android 13. And it’s comparable to my previous budget phone, so the only thing the 7a was worse at is now fixed for me.

Does anyone else feel like 90% of the population is stupid?
