idiomaddict,

I love the “let’s switch from English for a sec before we continue to talk about local politics, just to make sure we’re both from here” thing, and I’ve never been so convinced so quickly that someone was Argentinian than when you started the sentence with “vos”

Wonder Women (1973) (lemmy.world)

“Dr. Tsu is a brilliant surgeon with her own exotic island off the coast of Manila. Using her sexy, all-girl army of martial-arts experts, Tsu kidnaps some of the world’s greatest athletes. She is able to transplant any body part, so she uses the athletes for spare parts to sell to the world’s richest men. Mike Harber is a...

I’m sorry, the insurance guy is a womanizer? The 70s was weird

idiomaddict,

Even then, not if you’re in a full theater near kids

idiomaddict,

Thank you so much 🤍🤍

Right now I’m puking most of what I eat up, but I can stomach broth and vegan protein yogurt, so that’s probably a good idea.

Non-religious emergency responders/medicos of Lemmy, do you believe that something is 'missing' when looking at a corpse?

Firefighter here. I was reflecting on a fatality I attended recently. My thoughts wandered to how a body looks like it is ‘just matter’ in a way that a living thing does not, even when sleeping. Previously I assumed this observation was just something to do with traumatic death, but this person seemed to have died peacefully...

idiomaddict,

That’s where “putrid,” mostly used ime to describe a rotten smell, but also applicable to the morals of your least favorite politician, comes from

idiomaddict,

I think it’s mostly for things like rabies or other contagious diseases that make people act differently. That’s mostly because frankly, I don’t get nearly as much of a reaction to an unanimated but lifelike robot/mannequin/sex doll/CGI screenshot as I do to a moving one, and I wouldn’t describe my reaction to a dead body as uncanny valley at all. That said, it was a loved one’s body and I watched them die peacefully, so that could reduce any unnerving aspects.

idiomaddict,

Religion is a set of organized, ritualized practices based on spiritual belief. You can be spiritual without being religious, and I know a bunch of active, practicing Catholics who don’t believe in anything supernatural, so I would say you can be religious without being spiritual.

[Solved] What is the automatic recognition of quantities without having to count called?

When you look at a picture of three marbles, you don’t have to count them to know that there are three there, your brain just automatically knows that, but you have to count to see whether there are 17 or 18. I remember reading about a study of this for various animals. If I recall correctly, humans can typically recognize...

idiomaddict,

But does it matter? If he’s around a lot of beginning language learners, it could hamper understanding, but otherwise it’s just not in keeping with conventions.

idiomaddict,

If it’s the same kind of plastic as mini figs, games workshop or knockoff washes should work

idiomaddict,

Huge, huge difference between “ we understand that it can feel intimidating, but please speak to your manager, HR, or our third party service if you have a problem, as speaking with anyone else about the issue is actually counterproductive.” And “what does it say about the kind of person someone is, that they’d gossip about a coworker?” (Especially with the context that the “gossip” is a report of mistreatment)

idiomaddict,

Figure out exactly what undesirable life consequences means to you. Some people dream of a quiet life with pets and hobbies, some would call that a failure.

But no, you can’t avoid all negative life consequences. Even if life is a 1:1 totally predictable processing machine (it’s not), you still can’t control all the inputs

Possible source of the crazy amount of ocean temp change and subsequent heatwaves this year - less pollution from ocean liners seeding clouds (www.science.org)

The reduction of ship tracks due to regulations has caused the planet to warm up faster, especially in the Atlantic Ocean. This unintended consequence has provided an opportunity for scientists to study a geoengineering scheme in action.

idiomaddict,

This is going to be some swallowed a fly bullshit, where we add salt to the clouds, but then we no longer have freshwater rain, then we desalinate the rain, but then a bunch of animals die from missing magnesium or something

idiomaddict,

I like that idea, that quantum entanglement and free will are related :)

idiomaddict,

That’s joyless of you

idiomaddict,

The religion started by a science fiction author? Yeah, I’m sure there’s lots of cool ideas in there, but that doesn’t mean they’re believable. Keep that superiority complex high though

idiomaddict,

Why not get the bar soap from dr. Bronners?

idiomaddict,

Why do you lose altitude or airflow with a circle?

idiomaddict,

Is unfiction like scp stuff where it pretends to be real? Sorry, I can’t make spoilers work for me right now

Also, is there any meaningful difference between that and magical realism?

idiomaddict,

Frankly? Way too much oversharing with friends of all ages. That’s why it’s anecdotal, but it’s even changed in my time having sex. It’s just not something that I’ve seen studied by someone other than Christian mom groups.

If you have comprehensive coverage, this will be covered. If the damage is of less value than your deductible, you won’t receive any money.
